Evening date coffee shop near Seongbuk-gu Office: Mudeungdowon
In short
Mudeungdowon is a hand-drip filter coffee shop beside Seongbuk Stream, near Seongbuk-gu Office in Seoul. On an evening visit around 6:30pm with her boyfriend, the writer had the bright, acidic Danbalmeori blend filter coffee for 6,500 won, a bumble coffee of espresso mixed with orange juice for 6,600 won, and a chocolate tart for 7,200 won baked in the shop's own bakery kitchen. Mudeungdowon is small but cozy, all wood tones with LP records playing, and she would absolutely go back.

How to walk there from Seongshin Women's University Station

My boyfriend and I ate near Seongshin Women's University and then stopped by Mudeungdowon, a filter coffee spot nearby. It's near Seongbuk-gu Office, about a 6–7 minute walk from Seongshin Women's University Station.

With the heat finally starting to ease in the mornings and evenings, some people were enjoying their coffee at the outdoor tables. It's near my home, but I had no idea a café like this existed — felt like I'd just discovered a gem.

Monthly closed days can be checked via Naver notices or Instagram.

There was also this cute standing sign at the entrance.
What does the inside of Mudeungdowon look like?
The interior of Mudeungdowon isn't large but is cozy. It has a dark wood-tone interior with LP music playing, and impressively, it has its own bakery kitchen despite the small size.

This is the inside of the store. Not huge, but cozy. The table height was just right and the chairs were comfortable. I sat on the green sofa on the right, and it was so soft. We came a bit past 6:30pm and I was surprised how many people were inside drinking coffee. I took this photo on our way out when no one was around, haha.

The interior is done in a slightly dark wood tone, and LP music plays that clearly reflects the owner's taste — the song selection had real personality. It felt cozy and sentimental at once.

Here's the surprising part. The café isn't big, but it has its own bakery kitchen. Most small cafés buy frozen bakery goods, so the owner's dedication here is legendary... Seeing this, I couldn't not order something, so I picked one. What I ordered is coming up below!
Mudeungdowon menu and coffee bean lineup
For coffee, Mudeungdowon lets you choose between two beans: the nutty Yetsarang blend and the acidic Danbalmeori blend. Today's/tomorrow's filter coffee is ₩5,000.

You can choose between two beans for the coffee menu — the nutty Yetsarang blend or the acidic Danbalmeori blend. Switching to decaf adds ₩1,000, but it's free for pregnant customers. And bringing your own tumbler gets you ₩1,000 off!

You can even smell the beans the café carries.

Today's filter coffee and (?) tomorrow's filter coffee are both ₩5,000 — great value.

The filter coffee lineup had three options: Ecuador Eliza Sidra DF Washed Lot2, Guatemala La Tacita Washed, and a blend called 'What if we...'. With such a varied bean lineup, I'd recommend definitely trying the pour-over at a coffee spot like this.

There's also a morning set with a cardamom bun, a running-verification discount event of 4–10% depending on distance, and a monthly subscription.

The bakery and dessert lineup. I was so full when I walked in that I had no plans to eat dessert, but seeing the bakery kitchen made me feel like I had to try something, so I picked just one. The cardamom bun looked amazing too, but after debating between sweet corn and chocolate tart, my boyfriend picked the chocolate tart for me.

If you buy beans, you get a free americano. They also sell drip bags.

And apparently, part of the store's profits go to donations for hearing-impaired children facing financial hardship. What a wonderful owner, haha.
What we ordered on our evening date and how it tasted
- Filter coffee (Danbalmeori) ₩6,500
- Bumble coffee ₩6,600
- Chocolate tart ₩7,200

Our drinks and tart arrived.
Danbalmeori blend pour-over, 6,500 won

For the hand-drip coffee, I ordered the Danbalmeori, an acidic type that pairs well with hot summer weather — it felt juicy while still carrying its own distinct character unique to Mudeungdowon. Personally, when drinking filter coffee, I like to drink it straight rather than through a straw. It feels like the aroma comes through richer that way(?), so I took the straw out. It had been a while since I had such delicious coffee, so next time I want to try the (?) tomorrow's Filter Coffee. I bet its acidity will stand out too. (It's an Ethiopia natural and Colombia washed blend!)
Bumble coffee with espresso and orange juice, 6,600 won

The bumble coffee is a drink combining espresso with orange juice. So refreshing!! It tasted like 100% Del Monte orange juice!! The bitterness of the coffee paired well with the tanginess of the orange. This was really delicious too, but I found myself looking forward more to the café's varied filter coffee lineup.
Chocolate tart baked in the shop, 7,200 won

The chocolate tart's crust felt less like a cookie and more like a rich chocolate brownie.

Overall it was soft and dense, giving off brownie or pavé chocolate vibes. The chocolate flavor was rich and paired so well with the coffee. I'm so glad there's a café like this near Seongshin Women's University and Seongbukcheon! It's a shame I didn't know about it sooner. Would I go back? Absolutely.
