Chinese restaurant in Dong-gu, Ulsan for a hangover: level-2 jjamppong
In short
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is a stone-plate jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and jjajang (black bean noodle) restaurant on Ilsanjin 5-gil near Ilsan Beach in Dong-gu, Ulsan. On the last day of an Ulsan trip, after a night of heavy drinking, the writer ordered the Nurungji Dol Jjamppong + Dontang & Chitang set for 36,000 won and two children's yuni-jjajang for 6,000 won each; the level-2 dol jjamppong had a strong smoky, savory flavor and a mountain-sized portion. With high chairs, kids' dishware and even a baby-food microwave, Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is a good hangover-cure meal for families with children.

Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong: location and opening hours

We stopped by Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong on our way home at the end of our Ulsan trip! I'd had way too much to drink the night before and needed a hangover cure, and this was such a great choice for that too, haha.

Weekend at 11:20am: full parking lot and a 10-minute wait
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is near Ilsan Beach! It kind of gave off a Haeundae downtown vibe, haha. There were plenty of parking spots, but when we arrived around 11:20am on a weekend, the lot was already full, ugh. So we parked in a nearby alley and went in! They open at 11, so I was so surprised the lot was already full, haha.

There was already a wait when we walked in 🫠 a good restaurant is a good restaurant, right 👍🏻👍🏻 Still, the line moved fast and we got seated within 10 minutes!

The interior is big and pretty clean! Going out to eat with a kid is tough at cramped restaurants, but here it was spacious enough to eat comfortably, haha.
Menu and prices: 36,000-won set plus 6,000-won kids' yuni-jjajang
The menu! We ordered by kiosk, but the photo came out blurry from the sunlight, so I brought over the Naver menu board instead, haha. We ordered the Nurungji Dol Jjamppong + Dontang & Chitang set (36,000 won) and two orders of children's yuni-jjajang (6,000 won each), haha.

How to enjoy stone-plate dol jjamppong and dol jjajang
- Dol jjamppong: 1. Mix the bean sprouts and noodles together. 2. Cut into bite-sized pieces with scissors. 3. Divide into about 3 portions on separate plates. 4. Eat the scorched rice (nurungji) at the bottom. (Rice is free — help yourself to as much as you like.)
- Dol jjajang: 1. [20–30 seconds] Mix the noodles and wait for the jjajang sauce to soak in. 2. Cut into bite-sized pieces with scissors. (+ chili flakes OK) 3. Divide into about 3 portions on separate plates. 4. Eat the scorched rice (nurungji) at the bottom. (Rice is free — help yourself to as much as you like.)

Why Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong works for kids: baby-food microwave and dessert
While we waited after ordering, I looked around and saw they had plenty of high chairs, kids' dishware, a microwave just for baby food, and even snacks and yogurt for dessert 👍🏻 Such thoughtful touches 👍🏻👍🏻🩷🩷

You can help yourself to side dishes easily, and rice is unlimited too, so you can eat as much as you want 👍🏻🩷

How spicy is level-2 dol jjamppong, and how big is the portion?
Everything came out faster than expected!! The portion of dol jjamppong was wild 👍🏻 We definitely ordered a serving for two, but it came out piled up like a mountain — I was shocked, haha. Passed the visual test right away with that generous portion 👏🏻👏🏻

We mixed the bean sprouts and noodles together and dug in 🥢 The amount of seafood was insane too 👍🏻 Above all, the savoriness was out of control — the smoky char really came through, and it was just spicy enough to be delicious 🔥 (Also, we ordered level 2, and they told us it's between Shin Ramyun and Buldak Bokkeummyeon in spice, haha.) The kids ate the yuni-jjajang really well too, and Arim kept saying let's come again next time, haha.

The final treat: scorched rice (nurungji) at the bottom of the stone plate
Right around when we were finishing the noodles, the scorched rice (nurungji) at the bottom appeared! That was seriously such a treat, haha. We meant to mix in a bowl of rice with it too, but between the two of us finishing a medium-size portion, we were already so full we had to give up, ugh. I still regret not getting to mix that rice in, haha.
Ending on such a delicious note made the whole Ulsan trip feel good all the way to the last day, haha 🩷 The portions were generous and it was so tasty that we all ate really well and full with the kids, haha. If you're planning a trip to Ulsan or looking for a good restaurant near Daewangam, definitely stop by Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong 😆💕
