The Soyaso Bupyeong-gu Office branch is a charcoal-grilled beef restaurant on Jubuto-ro 145beon-gil near Bupyeong-gu Office Station in Incheon. After two kids finished their after-school academy classes, the three of us met there at 8:30 pm and ordered 600g of galbisal (beef short rib meat) for 70,000 won, plus naengmyeon (cold noodles), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and rice. The portion left all three of us full, and the staff even grilled garlic for us. For a hearty late beef dinner with kids, The Soyaso Bupyeong-gu Office branch is worth choosing again for the next family meal out.

Ramen shop in Nonhyeon, Incheon: no-wait 11:25 opening with kids

Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch is a Fukuoka-style Japanese ramen restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Iflex Building, near Exit 3 of Nonhyeon Station in Incheon. On a weekend the writer arrived with the kids for the 11:25 opening and ate Gureume ramen (9,900 won), salmon sushi (19,900 won) and a sake-don (salmon rice bowl) set (16,000 won) with no wait, while several parties were waiting by the time they left. For families with kids who dread queuing, arriving at opening is the way to eat at Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch.

Guwol-dong abalone restaurant: late lunch for 3 siblings, Jeonbokchon

Jeonbokchon (전복촌) is a Korean abalone course restaurant in Guwol-dong, Namdong, Incheon, near Yesulhoegwan Station. Three siblings met around 1 p.m. for a relaxed late lunch and ordered three abalone set meals (39,000 won each, 117,000 won total), a course that ran from abalone porridge, abalone sashimi and steamed abalone to seafood nurungji (scorched rice) soup, perilla abalone seaweed soup and maesil (green plum) tea until the table ran out of room. The Jeonbokchon abalone set seemed a little pricey at first, but the full course made it worth it, and all three kept saying how good it was.

Bupyeong seafood stew with kids and extra king prawns: Donghae

Haemulmyeongga Donghae Haemultang (해물명가 동해해물탕) is a long-running seafood stew restaurant tucked inside Bupyeong's Seafood Stew Street in Incheon. On a Friday around 5 pm, a party of three with kids ordered the small seafood stew (45,000 won) with 3 extra king prawns (10,000 won) and finished with fried rice (3,000 won). The kids loved the plump king prawns and nutty mung bean pancake, but the broth was a little spicy for them, and staff did not mention a missed order. Haemulmyeongga Donghae Haemultang is tasty, but go early, before it gets busy.

Solo-dining loin pork cutlet spot in Sinjungdong, Bucheon: P&Chick

P&Chick is a Chicago pizza and Western-style pork cutlet (gyeongyangsik donkatsu) restaurant inside the We've the State apartment complex in Sinjungdong, Bucheon. Eating alone around 2pm, the writer ordered the loin pork cutlet for 10,500 won: it started with kabocha pumpkin soup, and the two crispy Korean pork (Handon) loin cutlets never felt greasy to the last bite. For a relaxed solo lunch, P&Chick's counter seats on a quiet off-peak afternoon are a good choice.

Gyeyang burger restaurant on a friend's tip, café upstairs: Bas Burger

Bas Burger Incheon Gyeyang District Office Branch is a handmade burger restaurant on Gyeyangmunhwa-ro in Gyeyang, Incheon. Already full from lunch, the writer ordered a Bas Burger set (₩12,100) and a double bacon cheeseburger (₩11,900) on a friend's recommendation. A staff mistake brought a Bas Burger and a Double Bas Burger instead, but the writer still finished everything, including the free potato chips. With juicy patties, soft buns, a spacious dining room and a 2nd-floor café, Bas Burger is a burger spot worth a return visit.

Lotte Incheon ramen with two daughters, mild broth: Menya Seoul

Menya Seoul Lotte Department Store Incheon Branch is a ramen shop in the B1 food hall of Lotte Department Store in Michuhol, Incheon. While shopping for kids' clothes, the writer's older daughter asked for ramen, so the writer visited Menya Seoul with two daughters around 11:30 am. They ordered a mild-broth jambon ramen set (15,900 won) and a dongpo pork ramen set (17,900 won), plus gyoza, karaage and a soy-sauce chicken rice bowl. The dongpo pork and sides pleased even the kids, but three mild broths got a little rich toward the end, so next time mixing in a spicy broth is the better order.

Bucheon pub for a mom-daughter shrimp pizza night: People & Peoples

People & Peoples is a pizza and chicken pub near Sangdong Station in Bucheon, open daily from 4 pm to 2 am. On a Saturday evening during school vacation, a mom and her middle-school daughter ordered the shrimp pizza (24,900 won), crispy chicken (21,000 won), draft beer and a cola, and both loved the flaky pastry crust and the crunchy yet juicy boneless chicken. People & Peoples is a good spot where kids can enjoy pizza and chicken while mom has a draft beer.

Weekend Korean BBQ in Sinjungdong, Bucheon: grilled potatoes, Cham

Cham Dwaejitgan Bucheon Sinjungdong Branch is a 24-hour, 120-seat pork belly restaurant near Exit 3 of Sinjungdong Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, where staff grill the meat for you. The writer went with a friend around 6 pm on a weekend, ordered Boseong Nokdon Cham pork belly, flower pork neck and a stew, and was impressed by the thinly sliced grilled potatoes, the mushroom wasabi and a grill that barely splatters oil. Verdict: the aged pork and tableside grilling at Cham Dwaejitgan make it worth a return visit with the kids.

With 10 pieces of sushi plus chawanmushi, udon, shrimp tempura and karaage, the Premium Sushi Set at Sushi Doku The Songdo is filling enough that no extra orders are needed.
