Recently I was craving something spicy and hearty with lots of seafood, so I went to a Bucheon favorite in Simgok-dong: Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch (해물특별시 부천역본점).

It has even been on KBS's "Jangsa-ui Sin" (God of Business) segment on the show Saengsaeng Jeongbo, so the taste had already been checked on TV! I heard you can try the same eye-popping stone-plate seafood stew from the broadcast, so I went in with big expectations.
Where is Haemul Teukbyeolsi Bucheon Station branch, and where can you park?
It is near Bucheon Station on Line 1. For parking, use the basement of the Sangnok Free Zone Building and the restaurant covers 2 hours for free. Two hours!!

The restaurant covers the 2 hours for you!!! The Bucheon Station rodeo street and plaza area is famous for messy parking, right? But since this place covers 2 hours in a nearby building, you can bring your car and eat without worrying about parking. That was a real plus.
What is the atmosphere like at Haemul Teukbyeolsi?
Inside, the place felt like a trendy pub overall. It was cozy and warm, with a certain romantic charm.

The tables are neatly and sensibly arranged, so it is good for chatting over drinks with friends, and the size suits a small family meal or a small gathering. The staff cook fresh seafood with a standardized recipe, so the taste stays consistent whenever you visit, which I found reassuring.
Menu and spice levels at Haemul Teukbyeolsi

The menu runs from monkfish stew (agujjim) to seafood stew and algonii (roe) stew, a lineup that will make any seafood lover's eyes light up.

The stone-plate monkfish stew, stone-plate seafood monkfish stew and stone-plate seafood stew each use slightly different ingredients.

You can adjust the spice across 5 levels, from level 1 (beginner) to level 5, which makes choosing and challenging yourself fun. We played it safe and ordered level 2.

There are solid sides too, like corn cheese, steamed egg and fried rice, so it works as a pub for soju, highballs or beer as well as a meal.
How does the stone-plate seafood monkfish set taste?
What we ordered was the restaurant's pride, the stone-plate seafood monkfish set (돌판해물아구찜 요리한상).

The side dishes served first
Corn cheese, steamed egg, seaweed soup and seaweed snacks came out first. As a corn cheese lover, I really like places that serve it for free~

The steamed egg was plain, but it paired nicely with the seafood monkfish stew.

The moment the stone-plate stew landed on the table, it sizzled on the hot plate and the spicy aroma hit my nose. It was overwhelming.

Is the monkfish set too much for two people?
The portion is seriously huge! We went as two and it felt like a lot. Three people would find it just right and pleasant, so keep that in mind when you visit.

Whole squid, octopus and the rest of the seafood
The stone-plate seafood monkfish stew is generously packed with whole squid, octopus, boneless monkfish, odeungi (sea squirts), milt, shrimp, bean sprouts and minari (water dropwort). What moved me most was a real whole squid sitting on top, big and chunky. I cut it into bites and it was not chewy at all, just bouncy and seriously delicious! The octopus was tender too, with a great texture.

Boneless monkfish means no picking out bones
Above all, as a proper Bucheon monkfish stew place, the monkfish here comes with a boneless option. Picking out bones from monkfish stew is usually a hassle that sends sauce flying, but here it is 100% soft boneless meat, so you can scoop it up with a spoon with no worry about bones. So convenient and nice.
Crunchy bean sprouts, fragrant minari, rich milt and shrimp all soaked up the spicy house sauce, and I could not stop my chopsticks. It was not overly harsh and had lots of seafood, which I liked.

Wrapping monkfish in flat dumplings
Wrapping the stew in the flat dumplings (napjak mandu) served alongside was savory and even tastier!! The side dishes were good too.

Which TV show featured Haemul Teukbyeolsi?
Haemul Teukbyeolsi appeared on March 18, 2026 in the stone-plate seafood stew episode of KBS2's Saengsaeng Jeongbo "Jangsa-ui Sin." The stone-plate seafood stew also comes with a whole squid on top and was delicious.
