Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap (심학산 들꽃쌈밥) is a ssambap (rice with leafy wraps) and Korean set meal restaurant on Dolgoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. On a summer-vacation drive, the writer and her mother had two Deul sets at 11:30am on a weekday. Staff helped with parking, the self-serve bar offered 8 kinds of wrap vegetables, and the side dishes were not salty, so even her picky mother was pleased. Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a solid pick for a neat Korean meal with your parents.

Paju bingsu café with no elevator: mango snow bingsu, Fruit Forest

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store (과일의숲 파주직영점) is a fresh-fruit bingsu café on Dolgoji-gil near Simhaksan in Paju, Gyeonggi. On a weekday afternoon Fruit Forest was already nearly full, and after a 10-minute wait the fresh mango snow bingsu arrived topped with more than 1.5 fresh mangoes and cheesecake cubes. The ground-floor parking lot is roomy, but with no elevator and stairs up to the 2nd floor, visitors with strollers or older family members should plan ahead.

Chuseok holiday BBQ dinner in Bucheon: Boseong pork and minari, Cham

Cham Dwaejitgan Bucheon Sinjung-dong Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Sinjung-dong Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi. On the last evening of the Chuseok holiday, the order was two servings of Boseong nokdon (Boseong-raised pork) samgyeopsal with rice and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and a staff member grilled and cut the meat from start to finish alongside minari (water dropwort), bean sprouts and kimchi.
