Suwon date bar where the owner explains clam gamtae pasta: Ryu-eun

Ryu-eun (류은) is a fusion Korean pub on Sinpung-ro 23beon-gil in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. At a second-floor window seat, the writer ordered gamtae pasta (cream pasta with gamtae seaweed and clams), hanwoo daedoritang (a spicy braised stew made with Korean beef) and a lemon squash cocktail, and the owner came upstairs to explain each dish and how best to eat it. Alternating Ryu-eun's creamy gamtae pasta with the spicy daedoritang was especially satisfying, making Ryu-eun a strong pick for a Haenggung-dong date dinner.

Haenggung Jangjak Hanbang Tongdak is a good stop when you want wood-fired chicken and a draft beer on an evening stroll through the Haenggung-dong alleys.
