Jeonpo izakaya for two: giant mackerel sushi, cheese kushikatsu, 12.24

12.24 Seomyeon Branch is an izakaya on Jeonpo-daero in Busanjin, Busan. Two women stopped by for a second round, sat at the bar counter, and ordered mackerel bong-sushi (pressed bar sushi, ₩23,000), an 11-piece assorted kushikatsu platter (₩19,000) and four Asahi drafts (₩27,000); the bong-sushi was far bigger than expected, and the cheese kushikatsu was the favourite. With its cozy atmosphere and comfortable counter seats, 12.24 Seomyeon Branch is a good Jeonpo bar for a relaxed drink.

Seomyeon late-night bar with buttered sweet corn: Mokhwa Silbi

Mokhwa Silbi is an open-air style pub on Jungang-daero 680beon-gil in Seomyeon, Busanjin-gu, Busan, open until 2am and until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Stopping by for a second round with friends, the writer ordered cream cheese shrimp fondue for 30,000 won and buttered sweet corn for 8,500 won, both easy to share on a full stomach, with cheese melted at the table by torch, plump shrimp and one free refill of dinner rolls. Mokhwa Silbi has a roof that opens and closes, so the outdoor mood works whatever the weather, making it a solid Seomyeon date bar.
