Gojan-dong eel buffet with grandparents and a 5-year-old: Songnim Bok
In short
Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel All-You-Can-Eat Ansan City Hall Direct Store is an all-you-can-eat freshwater eel restaurant on the 2nd floor of Praum City in Gojan-dong, Ansan. A family of four, including grandparents and a 5-year-old, came for dinner and grilled eel, pork belly and chicken neck, while the dad made kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) and fried eggs at the self-serve bar. Children can eat pork belly and chicken neck instead of eel, and the spacious, clean dining room makes Songnim Bok a solid pick for a three-generation family dinner or a team dinner.

I travel with my baby and share places to visit and eat. Today I went to the newly opened Songnim Bok Jangeo (송림복장어) all-you-can-eat freshwater eel restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan. It turns out there are several branches in Ansan. The one I visited is the Ansan City Hall branch, located in Gojan-dong.
I went with my parents and my little one, and it looked like a great spot for a company dinner too. The restaurant is big, clean, and above all, all-you-can-eat. (Older folks love all-you-can-eat, haha 😆)

Where is Songnim Bok Ansan City Hall, and where do you park?
The Ansan City Hall direct store is on the 2nd floor of Praum City in Gojan-dong, and you can use the building's basement 1 parking lot. Praum City is famous for having lots of good restaurants gathered together. I used to go there often, so I found it easily.
From basement 2 down it's residents only, so no parking there. I went to basement 1, and since the officetel building is so big, I parked comfortably.
Atmosphere and high chairs

It has that freshly opened restaurant feel in Gojan-dong. There are plants and flowers, and it was super tidy.

There are plenty of seats, so it looks good for group dinners. If you're looking for a company dinner spot in Gojan-dong, Ansan, this place looks solid.

They also have high chairs. Other guests had babies with them too, and I came with my baby as well.

And since eel is an expensive food, it's best to order only as much as you can finish.
Basic set: eel, pork belly, chicken neck

Before you go to the self-serve bar, Songnim Bok sets your table with eel, pork belly and chicken neck. It's thanks to the pork belly and chicken neck that I could bring my baby, because my baby doesn't eat eel. 😭 I was glad there was other meat to eat instead. And the pork belly and chicken neck are all-you-can-eat too. ❣️
What's at the self-serve bar?
Vegetables, garlic, sauces

At Songnim Bok's all-you-can-eat, the self-serve bar is the main attraction. It's full of fresh vegetables, garlic and all kinds of sauces, so if you run short, just grab more here.
Fried eggs, kimchi jeon

At the self-serve bar you can also make your own fried eggs and kimchi jeon.
Eel, pork belly, chicken neck
The meat looks really great and fresh, and there's plenty of it.
How to grill all-you-can-eat eel well
The most important thing is to cut the eel into bite-size pieces and stand them up to brown the cut sides. Before grilling eel, you have to study how to grill it well.

⬇️ How to enjoy eel

Grilling the skin side first is a key point, because that seems to get rid of the fishy smell. And to grill the cut side, you stand the pieces on their sides like this. Once they're golden brown standing up, they're done!

Dip the nicely grilled eel into the sauce, wrap it in a leaf, and take a bite: pure bliss. No fishy taste at all, just plump, rich flavor, and it was so good. It wasn't thin, weak eel; I got to keep eating plump, solid eel.

The eel really is hefty, right? 👍
Kimchi jeon dad made at the self-serve bar
While we were eating eel, my dad went to the Songnim Bok self-serve bar and brought back fried eggs and kimchi jeon. The ingredients are good, and dad is a pancake master anyway. The kimchi jeon he made was delicious.

Eel and bokbunja wine: how was it as a family meal?

Bokbunja wine (Korean black raspberry wine) is eel's partner. I poured it into a glass, and one sip was sweet and so easy to keep drinking. Sweet and slightly bitter, not strong, and of course it went well with eel.

That was our visit to Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel Ansan City Hall Direct Store with my parents and baby. If you're looking for a Gojan-dong restaurant to take your parents, I recommend it. I enjoyed it so much that I want to visit again.
