Yeosu sashimi takeout shop with live squid sashimi, ₩35,000: Uchangho

Uchangho Sashimi Takeout & Direct Sales Market is a sashimi and seasonal seafood takeout shop in Ungcheon-dong, Yeosu. This visit, a small portion of in-season live squid sashimi (san-ojingeohoe) cost 35,000 won and was taken back to the lodging as a late-night second round, packed with vegetables and a special sauce so it could be eaten like hoe-muchim (spicy raw fish salad) or mulhoe (cold raw fish soup). For sashimi at a Yeosu pension or hotel, Uchangho takeout is the answer.

No-wait weekday lunch with charcoal pork set meal: Gim Myeongju

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, good for taking parents. Visiting on a rainy weekday at 1pm meant no wait and staff guiding the writer to parking without getting wet, and the charcoal-grilled pork set meal (₩31,000 per person) came with pot rice, cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), and an unlimited self-bar of banchan (side dishes). A solid value spread that left the writer wanting to come back.
