Gunsan Korean restaurant for boneless gamjatang: Insaeng Gamjatang

In short

Insaeng Gamjatang is a Korean restaurant in Susong-dong, Gunsan, serving boneless gamjatang and haejangguk. Three of us tried the uggeoji and aged-kimchi boneless haejangguk, with rich broth, tender meat, and an easy self-service bar. Verdict: a great gamjatang stop when you do not want to pick around bones.

One evening, I was craving a hot, spicy broth. As someone who had stayed away from gamjatang (pork-bone soup) because picking meat off the bones felt like such a hassle, I heard news that was like a ray of light: Insaeng Gamjatang (인생감자탕), a boneless gamjatang favorite in Susong-dong, Gunsan. Here is my honest review after visiting with high expectations!!

A spacious, tidy spot near the Susong-dong wedding hall

It was easy to find on the roadside near the wedding hall in Susong-dong. The parking lot behind the building was spacious, so parking was easy too. The restaurant itself was roomy and tidy. With its cozy wood-toned interior and generously spaced tables, it was comfortable to eat in. It also looked like a good place for a group gathering or family meal.

The uggeoji and aged-kimchi boneless haejangguk chosen by three of us

The three of us visited and ordered one boneless haejangguk (hangover soup) each according to our tastes: uggeoji boneless haejangguk and aged-kimchi boneless haejangguk.

White kimchi, seokbakji, and the self-service bar

The baek kimchi (white kimchi) and seokbakji (cubed radish kimchi) that came as sides were excellent too. The crisp, refreshing seokbakji in particular was a perfect match for the gamjatang.

It was convenient to help ourselves to as much extra side dish as we wanted at the self-service bar.

Tangy, spicy aged-kimchi boneless haejangguk

My friend ordered the aged-kimchi boneless haejangguk. The well-fermented aged kimchi gave the broth a tangy, spicy kick that really whetted the appetite. This is such a rice thief.

Both dishes used boneless meat, so they were genuinely easy to eat. The best part was being able to focus entirely on the broth and meat without the hassle of picking around bones. So good!!

Deep, rich uggeoji boneless haejangguk

I ordered the uggeoji boneless haejangguk. It was a straightforward, satisfying flavor with plenty of uggeoji—outer cabbage leaves—in it. The broth was deep and rich. Eating the tender boneless meat with the uggeoji was hearty and delicious.

Final thoughts: gamjatang flavor without the bones

Insaeng Gamjatang is a place where you can focus solely on the flavor of gamjatang without the trouble of picking meat off bones. The half-and-half gamjatang for enjoying two flavors at once, along with the boneless meat option, are both excellent choices. If you are looking for good gamjatang in Gunsan, I recommend Insaeng Gamjatang Gunsan Branch.
