Hanam Korean restaurant with perilla samgyetang: Baekheukdam
In short
Baekheukdam (백흑담) is a Korean restaurant on Misadong-ro in Hanam, Gyeonggi. I had perilla samgyetang for ₩21,000 and found the nutty broth smooth rather than heavy, with tender chicken and ice cream for dessert. Its spacious interior and parking made it suitable for family meals or group dining.

Wanting a hearty meal, I went to Baekheukdam (백흑담) in Hanam for perilla samgyetang. I enjoyed the nutty broth and tender chicken, then finished with ice cream for dessert.

Where is Baekheukdam, and is parking available?
Baekheukdam is on the first floor at 93 Misadong-ro, Hanam, Gyeonggi-do. It serves meal options including samgyetang.

Parking was available, so it was convenient to visit by car. I tend to consider parking important when choosing a restaurant, so I appreciated that.

Is the space suitable for family meals or gatherings?
The interior was more spacious and cleaner than I expected. The high ceiling kept it from feeling cramped, and the tables were spaced relatively generously. Everything was orderly overall, so I had a comfortable meal.

A tablet was installed at each table, so I could order from my seat.

I could take my time checking the menu and choosing on the tablet. I felt it would also be convenient to order when visiting with several people.

How much does the perilla samgyetang cost?
The perilla samgyetang I ordered that day cost ₩21,000.

Was the perilla broth too heavy?
When the samgyetang arrived, a gentle perilla aroma rose from the bowl. The broth tasted nuttier and smoother than regular samgyetang when I tried it first.

The broth was fairly rich, but the perilla flavor was not so strong that it felt heavy. I usually get tired of perilla broth quickly when it is overly thick, but here the nuttiness and clean flavor were balanced.

How was the chicken texture with the rice?
The chicken was cooked tenderly and easy to pull from the bones. The slightly drier parts were not particularly bothersome, and eating it with the warm broth made for a filling meal.

Sipping the broth with rice brought out the distinctive nuttiness of the perilla even more. Rather than being aggressively seasoned, it tasted like the clean flavor of samgyetang with added perilla.

I kept reaching for the broth while eating the whole chicken. It stayed warm until the end.

Eating the chicken and broth together gave me a nutty flavor at first, followed by a clean finish. This was the style of perilla samgyetang I usually enjoy, so I was satisfied.

Is there dessert after the meal?
Ice cream was available for dessert. After the hot, nutty samgyetang, the cold ice cream refreshed my palate and paired better than I expected.

What kind of meal would bring me back?
Along with the food, I also remembered the restaurant's clean atmosphere.

With parking and plenty of room, it seemed suitable for meals with several people, such as a family outing or a gathering with friends.

The nutty but not overly heavy broth and tender chicken suited my taste. I would like to return when I am craving perilla samgyetang.
