A friend said she was craving raw fish, so we headed to a well-known spot near my home. Veteran, right in front of Yeonsu Station! It's on the 3rd floor of Yeonsu Gwangjang Plaza, and you can use the building's underground parking~
Is Veteran General Fish Market in Yeonsu good for group dinners?
The hall at Veteran's Yeonsu branch is much bigger than I expected, so it looked great for company dinners and group gatherings. I had no idea it would be this spacious, my eyes went wide!
The hall was quite big and still full of people! The kitchen is open-style, so you can watch the food being made.
Can you already eat large yellowtail in Yeonsu?
When I visited in late October, yellowtail was already on the menu at Veteran's Yeonsu branch. That day I ordered a 1-person mulhoe for ₩18,000 and a mini yellowtail platter for ₩37,000.
The menu is huge and I was agonizing over it when, wait, what?! Yellowtail is already out?????? I can't resist. This year's first yellowtail,, I'm going to enjoy it at Veteran General Fish Market!

What's at Veteran's DIY kimchi pancake station and self-serve bar?
Veteran has a self-serve zone where you fry your own kimchi pancake (kimchi-jeon), so you can make an appetizer right after ordering. The self-serve bar has kimchi, aged kimchi, pickled scallions, pickled ginger, ramyeon noodles, wrap vegetables and salad.
Right after ordering, we headed to the self-serve zone! You can make your own kimchi pancake there, and my friend fried a lovely one haha. Crispy outside, soft inside, appetizer done~
The self-serve bar is well stocked too: kimchi, aged kimchi, pickled scallions and pickled ginger, plus ramyeon noodles, wrap vegetables and salad. You can take whatever you want!
Side dishes at Veteran General Fish Market
The side dishes include seaweed soup with pollock, salted pollock roe, a raw fish salad and quail eggs, among others. After frying the kimchi pancake and coming back, a full table was set! Ready for the raw fish.
How big is the 1-person mulhoe at Veteran?
The 1-person mulhoe (₩18,000) came out piled high with raw fish, enough for two to share. There were vegetables and fish roe on the bottom and nothing but sashimi on top.
And then the mulhoe came out...? I definitely ordered one portion, so what is this. So much food, a total mountain of raw fish.
The raw fish was piled up like this, I can't even ㅠㅠ What is going on with this value. No noodles in it, just pure fish bulk(?) making this amount.. Vegetables and roe on the bottom and all~~~ sashimi on top!
Next time it would be good to order it for delivery too......
While we were busy eating, they brought us somyeon (thin wheat noodles) haha. My friend and I kept asking each other if this was really right... It is definitely not one portion, it's just two. Truly a generous, tasty, great-value dish!
What comes with the ₩37,000 mini yellowtail platter?
The mini yellowtail platter at Veteran (₩37,000) came with a little of several cuts, which was just right for two people. It was the star of the day and came out last.

We also topped it with the salted pollock roe from the side dishes, fresh wasabi and makjang (seasoned soybean paste) and made wraps. So full and so happy with the meal.
Is there dessert at Veteran after the meal?
Veteran's Yeonsu branch has a separate corner with nostalgic three-color ice cream and coffee to finish your meal. A thoughtful sashimi restaurant,,, a place where you can eat your fill, chat and even sort out dessert!!
