If you're looking for an Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere in Gangnam, the choice can get stressful. It's hard to find a place that satisfies on flavor, atmosphere and service all at once. Osteria Lucia, the Hakdong Station restaurant I visited this time, was perfect for a date and just as good for an anniversary meal, so I was really happy with it. The polpo, the guanciale pasta and the squid ink risotto were all impressive, and I'd happily go back. 😊

Where is Osteria Lucia, and what's the atmosphere like?

Osteria Lucia is an Italian restaurant on Hakdong-ro 30-gil, deep in a side alley that's an easy walk from Hakdong Station. It felt upscale from the first impression. Being tucked into the alley actually makes it quiet and private, which I found even more charming. Getting there on foot from Hakdong Station is easy, so access is good too.

Osteria Lucia menu selection

What's on the menu at Osteria Lucia, and how much does it cost?

Osteria Lucia has pasta, risotto and steak, plus a variety of antipasti (starters) and wine, so it's easy to order to your taste. This visit we ordered polpo (octopus), guanciale pasta and squid ink risotto. The three dishes made a really great combination.

Even before the mains, the plating was so pretty that I couldn't help taking photos. Each plate came out like a little work of art, which made it fun to look at. 📸

Prices are typical for Italian dining, but considering the quality and ingredients I found them quite satisfying. You could taste that good ingredients were used, and the portions weren't smaller than I expected. For a date or anniversary, atmosphere and the finish of the food matter, and I'd give high marks on both. That's exactly why I'd recommend it when you want a special meal in the Hakdong Station area.

Polpo, golden grilled octopus

How was the polpo (octopus dish)?

The first dish we tried at Osteria Lucia was the polpo (₩28,000). 🐙 The outside was grilled golden with a subtle smoky flavor, and the inside was really tender. There was hardly any of the chewiness octopus can have, and I was impressed by how the savory depth built the more I chewed. It went really well with the accompanying sauce, an appetizer that woke up my appetite.

Is the guanciale pasta greasy?

Next was the guanciale pasta (₩25,000), the one I was most looking forward to. 🍝 The rich flavor of guanciale (cured pork jowl) melted right into the sauce, and the salty savoriness blended perfectly with the noodles. The noodles were cooked a perfect al dente and the sauce clung to them well, so I enjoyed it down to the last bite.

It wasn't just greasy; it felt like the flavor of the ingredients was properly brought out, which made it more satisfying. The nutty fat of the guanciale wasn't overwhelming and gave a deep flavor, so I think it would pair really well with wine.

Creamy squid ink risotto at Osteria Lucia

Why the squid ink risotto was the most memorable

Last, the squid ink risotto (₩26,000) at Osteria Lucia was personally the most memorable dish. 🖤 It kept the deep flavor of squid ink without any fishiness, and the creamy texture was really great. The rice grains kept a pleasant bite and never felt mushy, so it was fun to chew.

With every bite the taste of the sea filled my mouth, and the softness of the cream added to it, so the flavor felt really balanced. Risotto can easily get heavy, but I enjoyed it all the way to the end without getting tired of it.

All three dishes had distinct personalities yet went well together, so it was a good combination to order at once. I could feel the chef's delicacy in each dish, and both the plating and the taste made for a satisfying meal.

Staff service at Osteria Lucia

The staff were friendly too, so we had a pleasant time throughout the meal. They explained the menu in detail and attentively took care of what we needed, which made the visit even better. 😊

Verdict: why I recommend Osteria Lucia for an anniversary date near Hakdong Station

Osteria Lucia lacked nothing in atmosphere, food or service. The polpo, guanciale pasta and squid ink risotto in particular were so good that I keep thinking about them, and it's a great restaurant for a special day.

If you're looking for a date spot, an anniversary meal or an Italian restaurant with a good atmosphere, I think you'll be happy here. If you're planning a special meal, do give it a visit. 😊 If you want a Hakdong Station restaurant that delivers on both flavor and atmosphere, I confidently recommend Osteria Lucia. ❤️
