In short
Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch is a Chinese restaurant known for its jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), located across from Jungheung S-Class The First in the Bongdam 2-jigu area of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekday when her husband took a day off, the blogger and her husband visited Bobae Banjeom around 3 p.m. and had crab-topped seafood jjamppong (13,000 won) and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork, 14,000 won) in a quiet dining room. My husband finally took a day of annual leave, so we had a weekday date!

I was craving jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) so badly that we went to Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch (보배반점 봉담점), famous for its jjamppong in the Bongdam 2-jigu area. Long story short, we had a really great meal :)
Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch: location, hours and parking
Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch is open daily 11:00–21:00, with last order at 20:40. There's a private parking lot behind the restaurant, and roadside parking nearby works too.
It's right across from Jungheung S-Class The First in Bongdam 2-jigu! The green exterior stands out, so it was easy to spot from the road, haha.

Parking in the lot behind the restaurant is the easy option. There are lots of apartments and shops around, so office workers come for lunch too! It's easy to get to by car, so I think we'll be back with my husband, haha.
What is Bobae Banjeom like on a weekday afternoon?
We arrived around 3 p.m. on a weekday and sat down right away with no wait. The hall has high ceilings and mostly sofa seats, so it feels relaxed.

Lunchtime was long over, so we walked straight in, and with hardly any other customers it was quiet and we could eat at leisure, haha.

It has a green awning and a wood-toned exterior, and the high ceilings inside make it feel airy. The seats are mostly plush sofas and the tables are spaced generously, so it was comfortable to sit and eat!

There are 2-person seats, so eating alone isn't awkward, and with group seating and high chairs it looked good for family meals too.

Self-serve bar with free rice
The self-bar has danmuji (pickled yellow radish), zha cai (pickled mustard stem), small plates and scissors, and best of all, the rice is free! It's perfect for dropping into your jjamppong broth, and I really loved that, haha.
Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch menu and prices

- Bobae jajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce) ₩7,500
- Bobae jjamppong ₩9,000
- Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), mini, 1 serving ₩14,000
- Seafood jjamppong ₩13,000
There's a wide menu, with jajangmyeon, fried rice, japchae rice, plus yuringi and kanpoongi (fried chicken dishes), so I deliberated for ages! Since lunchtime had passed, we ordered just two things: the mini tangsuyuk and the seafood jjamppong. You order by kiosk at each table.
How does the crab seafood jjamppong taste?
The seafood jjamppong (₩13,000) comes with a crab on top of the red broth, and it's spicy yet refreshingly seafood-y. It came out soon after we ordered.

We're a seafood-and-scallion couple rather than a beef-brisket one, and with the crab sitting on the red broth, it looked overwhelming from the first glance!
I took a spoonful of broth, and the spicy kick with the cool seafood flavor loosened me up from the inside. It's packed with ingredients, and seafood like squid and shrimp deepens the broth even more.

Since the broth is brewed with crab, it's clean with no stuffiness, and the aftertaste is refreshing.

The noodles soak up the broth, and when you slurp them, the spiciness fills your whole mouth.

My husband couldn't put his chopsticks down and kept spooning up the broth too, haha.
How big is the mini tangsuyuk, and is it good?
The mini tangsuyuk (₩14,000) surprised me with how generous it is even at mini size! The batter is crispy and the meat inside is moist, so the texture really works.
The sauce is sweet and sour without being greasy, so you keep reaching for more, haha. A light dip in the sauce doubles the sweet-and-sour flavor.
My husband dips his tangsuyuk in soy sauce though... I can't understand it, but he enjoyed it, hahahahaha.
A bite of jjamppong, a bite of tangsuyuk, back and forth, is a perfect match. Just two dishes for the two of us and we were stuffed, haha. We were too full to put rice in, but next time I'll definitely add the free rice to the leftover jjamppong broth!

Is Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch worth a return visit?
For anyone looking for a Chinese restaurant in Bongdam, I think Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch is even better because the value is good too. It was quiet on a weekday afternoon, so we ate leisurely and it was easy to take photos, haha. If you're after jjamppong in Bongdam 2-jigu, do go. Refreshing crab jjamppong plus generous tangsuyuk was perfect.

It suits solo meals, dates and family dinners alike! Next time I want to try the jajangmyeon too. 100% coming back :)
