Hamdeok black pork restaurant, 300g pork neck add-on: Jeju Samchun
In short
Jeju Samchun is a dry-aged black pork restaurant a 3-5 minute walk from Hamdeok Beach in Jeju. Three friends arrived at 6pm on a Friday, ordered the 500g Jocha Set (60,000 won) with Samchun kimchi jjigae, then added 300g of pork neck for 36,000 won and decided they should have started with the 800g Samchun Set. For three people the Samchun Set is the right size, while the Jocha Set suits two.

Today's post is about a great meal I had at Jeju Samchun, a black pork place near Hamdeok Beach. If you're visiting Jeju, you have to eat black pork right?! Jeju Samchun had great reviews as a spot near my accommodation, so I went and checked it out.
Where is Jeju Samchun? Parking and the 3-5 minute walk from Hamdeok Beach
Jeju Samchun is really close to Hamdeok Beach, making it a perfect spot to eat after swimming. It took about 3-5 minutes on foot.

- ⏰ Daily 12:00-23:00 / last order 22:00 / closes early when ingredients run out

Is there a wait at 6pm on a Friday? 10 groups queueing by the time we left
The inside of Jeju Samchun was clean and spacious. We visited around 6pm on a Friday and got seated right away with no wait. But on our way out, there were about 10 groups waiting outside. If you want to avoid the wait, I'd recommend going a bit earlier.

Jeju Samchun's black pork: 300 hours of cold aging and grapevine smoking
Apparently the black pork here is wet-aged for 300 hours at 0℃~2℃ and smoked using grapevine wood chips. So it's supposed to have a soft texture and deep flavor, which made me even more excited.

How much to order for three: the Samchun Set, not the Jocha Set
There were three of us women, so after some thought about how much to order, we got the 500g Jocha Set (₩60,000), Samchun kimchi jjigae (₩8,000), rice (₩1,000), and of course a bottle of Terra (₩5,000).
Bottom line: we should have just ordered the 800g Samchun Set from the start. Why? Because we ended up adding more meat mid-meal haha. We were pretty hungry haha. If you're two people go Jocha Set, if you're three people go Samchun Set.

Side dishes at Jeju Samchun: scallion salad, gim (seaweed), aged kimchi, pollack roe
This is how the basic side dishes came out — scallion strips, gim (dried seaweed), mukeunji (aged kimchi), pollack roe, and more. The aged kimchi and pollack roe were totally my thing.
And then, the meat arrives! Made a really pretty entrance.

So pretty looking haha.
The staff grilled everything for us haha. Thanks to that we could just relax and eat comfortably.

Meat grilling while we sip on beer haha.
How does the Jocha Set taste? Juicy pork neck and chewy pork belly
The Jocha Set is a combo of pork neck and pork belly. The staff even grilled aged kimchi right next to the meat on the grill.

Doesn't it look so good? Big cuts, crispy outside and juicy inside haha.
The juiciness was seriously insane. My friends all took one bite and were amazed too. So chewy, the texture was the best,, ugh I want to eat it again,,.

My favorite combo: meat + mushroom + radish wrap.

Samchun kimchi jjigae, 8,000 won: the palate cleanser between bites
Then the kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) came out, packed with meat and well-cooked kimchi with just the soft texture I love. Eating it in between bites of meat cut the richness perfectly — a really great combo.

You all know eating it like this is extra delicious, right?

We wrapped up neat little ssam (wraps) and kept eating and eating. Zero gamey smell from the meat, it was really delicious.

Pollack roe with grilled pork, and adding 300g of pork neck
This was my first time eating pollack roe together with meat, and the combo was insane. It's genuinely delicious eaten together, so I really recommend trying it at least once.
As we kept eating enthusiastically, the meat disappeared fast, so after some debate we went ahead and ordered more. Adding 300g of pork neck (₩36,000) made the portion just right. The three of us were hungry women, so honestly we should have just ordered the Samchun Set from the beginning haha.
The nape cut came out quickly. The staff grilled it well for us again.

Finally, we enjoyed the pork neck to the fullest

and cleared the plate. We ate so, so well!
Jeju Samchun Hamdeok Black Pork
Is Jeju Samchun worth it? Final verdict
Overall, everything from the meat to the side dishes was satisfying. The black pork's juiciness and chewy texture were especially impressive, and my friends all said it was delicious too, which made me kind of proud haha. Finishing off with a hearty bowl of kimchi jjigae felt like properly enjoying Jeju black pork! The staff grilling each piece for us made eating easy too. If you're looking for a good black pork restaurant near Hamdeok Beach, I think it's worth a visit at least once. This is a place I'd want to visit again the next time I'm in Jeju.
