Gangneung sundubu restaurant, ₩20,000 crab tofu table: Jeong Eunsuk
In short
Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu is a Chodang soft tofu (sundubu) restaurant on Nanseolheon-ro in Gangneung, Gangwon. Our first day arriving in Gangneung. Once you're in Gangneung you absolutely have to eat chodang sundubu (soft tofu from Chodang-dong)!! So we visited Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu, a Gangneung sundubu spot known for always having a long wait.

Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu, a Gangneung sundubu spot, has convenient parking right in front and beside the shop. There's also a waiting area next to the entrance with a roof overhead, so you can sit comfortably even on a rainy day without getting wet. 👍🏻

Is there a wait? Straight in at 12:30 with a Naver Reservation
Booking a wait in advance through Tabling can shave a bit more off your waiting time. We booked through Naver Reservation and were able to walk straight in at exactly 12:30 with no wait at all. If your schedule lets you time it that way, I'd recommend Naver Reservation. :)
The restrooms are separated for men and women right beside the entrance, and the parking lot is right next door too, so it was convenient. There was signage noting that if the lot is full, you can use the nearby free Heo Nanseolheon parking lot.

Inside the restaurant: seating and high chairs
There were plenty of tables inside. Lots of them were sized for groups, so even families could sit down comfortably together. There were a lot of parties there — parents, kids, friends, all in group settings. They also had baby chairs, so it was great that families with young kids could easily be seated too.

There was also a sign saying you get free sundubu pudding for leaving a photo review on Naver. Since this is a Gangneung sundubu spot, imagine how good the sundubu pudding must be. ☺️ The place has also appeared on TV, and a broadcast was playing continuously in one corner.

What comes with the ₩20,000 Chodang Tofu Table for two
We ordered the ✔️Chodang Tofu Table (sundubu jjigae + tofu samhap) for two, marked as selected by Gangneung-si. It came out as a full spread.
- ✔️Sundubu jjigae
- ✔️5 side dishes
- ✔️Wrap vegetables
- ✔️Boiled pork (suyuk)
- ✔️Tofu
- ✔️Seasoned pollock (myeongtaehoe)
- ✔️Garlic, chili peppers
- ✔️3 kinds of dipping sauce

Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu, this Gangneung sundubu spot, had a great samhap combo. Smooth chodang sundubu with boiled pork and seasoned pollock — eating all three together in one bite. :)

We picked what we wanted to wrap and piled it onto lettuce or perilla leaves. My husband's a lettuce guy so he did lettuce wraps, and I'm a perilla leaf person so I did perilla wraps.

The side dishes were mild and plain, the kind that go well with rice and sundubu jjigae. They paired nicely with the spicy, clean-tasting sundubu jjigae.

How does the crab sundubu jjigae taste?
At Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu, this Gangneung sundubu spot, the jjigae was completely packed with sundubu, and I loved how soft and cloud-like it looked.

Once it comes to a rolling boil, the broth turns this rich. There was crab inside too, which added even more savory depth. The longer it simmered, the cleaner and better it tasted. I picked out the sundubu bit by bit, and since I love crab, I picked out the crab meat too — there was a ton of it. There were also plenty of mushrooms, which I love.

Honest verdict on Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu
Jeong Eunsuk Chodang Sundubu, a Gangneung sundubu spot, will satisfy anyone who likes a clean-tasting, spicy sundubu jjigae. Since the sundubu jjigae and tofu samhap portions are generous on their own, we didn't end up eating much of the side dishes, but the mild sides seemed to go well with the flavor of the sundubu jjigae.
The boiled pork was cooked soft and tender, and eating it with the tofu gave this really lovely fluffy texture. The sundubu jjigae got deeper in flavor the more it boiled, which I think was thanks to the crab inside. :)
