Hotpot buffet in Nampo, Busan with a ₩15,900 teen price: Sacheon

Sacheon Hwogwa Yangkkochi Nampo Branch (사천훠궈양꼬치 남포점) is an all-you-can-eat hotpot and lamb skewer restaurant in Bupyeong-dong, Jung-gu, Busan, next to Bupyeong Pork Trotter Street. On the last day of a Busan trip, before her son moved into his dormitory, the writer and her son shared red (spicy) and white (mild) broth hotpot and charcoal-grilled lamb skewers. The highlights were the separate teen price of 15,900 won next to the 24,900 won adult price, and the especially fresh vegetables. Verdict: with a big-eating teenager in tow, Sacheon Hwogwa Yangkkochi Nampo Branch feels like even better value.

Dongseong-ro Western restaurant for an early family dinner: Resting07

Resting07 is a Western restaurant on the second floor of a building in the busy Dongseong-ro district of Jung-gu, Daegu. After their son's match in Gumi, a family of three staying in Daegu stopped by Resting07 around 4:30 pm on a weekday and shared a quattro formaggi pizza, truffle cream risotto and Shanghai oil pasta. Each had a different favorite, but Resting07's honey-dipped quattro formaggi pizza won unanimous first place from all three.

Korean BBQ near Dongdaegu Station after a match in Gumi: Hubaldae

Hubaldae Dongdaegu Station Branch (후발대 동대구역점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant in the Dongdaegu Station food alley in Dong-gu, Daegu, where staff grill pork belly, pork neck, daechang (beef large intestine) and teukyang (beef tripe) at your table. After the writer's son had a match in Gumi and the family stayed a night in Daegu, four people shared pork neck, pork belly, daechang and teukyang with honey potatoes, basil and angelica wraps, kimchi jjagle (spicy kimchi stew) wraps and fried rice, then ordered one more daechang and one more pork belly. For a group that wants to try a range of meats in comfort, Hubaldae Dongdaegu Station Branch is a good fit.

XXL Family Set for three in Ara-dong, Jeju: Dough Rider Pizza

Dough Rider Pizza is a wood-fired pizza restaurant in a residential pocket of Ara-dong, Jeju, about 15 to 20 minutes by car from Jeju Airport. After picking up my son from an 8:30 pm arrival, the three of us ordered the Family Set (XXL half-and-half pizza, 2 sides, 2 drinks), and the pizza was so big that ordering two pastas felt like a mistake. The leftovers went home in a box, and even reheated in an air fryer the next day the Dough Rider Pizza crust still had its texture.
