Gyeongridan-gil pie shop, build-your-own 6-pie box: Gyeongju Tokyo Pie

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is a bakery on Hwangnidan-gil (also called Gyeongju Gyeongridan-gil) in Gyeongju that bakes chocolate, red bean, and apple fillings inside pastry. The 6-piece set on this visit was packed with 4 apple, 1 chocolate, and 1 red bean, and the pastry stayed crisp while the apple held its texture instead of turning to jam. Sold only in Gyeongju, Gyeongju Tokyo Pie works for both a travel snack and a gift.

Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil Korean restaurant, three rice bowls: Dongyang

Dongyang Baekban is a Korean set-meal (baekban) restaurant on Hwangridan-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. Before a day of Gyeongju sightseeing, the family each picked a different rice bowl at Dongyang Baekban — egg rice, pollack roe rice and beef tartare rice — and shared a pot of boneless sumi dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken with potatoes), and the child nearly finished a whole bowl of egg rice. For a proper Korean first meal on Hwangridan-gil instead of café snacks, Dongyang Baekban was a solid choice.
