Apgujeong burger shop on Burger Day: solo double burger at Downtowner

My all-time favorite food is the hamburger, and did you know May 28 is Burger Day every year? So last Thursday, which was Burger Day, I went to Downtowner Cheongdam, a well-loved spot in Apgujeong Rodeo, for a good handmade burger.

Where is Downtowner Cheongdam and what are the opening hours?

Downtowner Cheongdam is at 14 Dosan-daero 53-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and it is open daily 11:00-21:00.

It's a 5-minute walk from Exit 5 of Apgujeongnodeo Station. Turn into the Mega Coffee alley and take a left, and it's across from Knotted Donuts (노티드도넛). I walked in with no wait at 1:30 pm on a Thursday. 🚘 Paid parking is available 🚘

Inside Downtowner Cheongdam and how to order at the kiosk

There are lots of tables, and you order at the kiosk at each table! The inside has that hip Downtowner vibe, and with so many tables it seemed good for groups and for eating alone.

The menu has all kinds of handmade burgers, from the signature avocado burger to cheese, chicken and shrimp burgers, and for an extra ₩4,900 you can make any of them a set :)

What I ordered was the Downtowner Double Burger set (with the fries changed to garlic butter fries).

Downtowner Cheongdam self-serve bar and free drink refills

Water, pickles, Tabasco, small plates, knives and forks are all set out at the self-bar at the back. After you order, you can help yourself to drinks there too, and since they're free refills, if there are two or more of you, ordering just one set and sharing seems fine :)

And the pickles, Downtowner's little secret weapon, come in two flavors, original and spicy. Eating them between bites of burger is cool, crunchy and a perfect palate cleanser, so please try them, hahaha!

How does the Downtowner Double Burger taste?

By the time I'd fetched my drink and pickles from the self-bar, my food was already ready...!! I upgraded the set's regular fries to garlic butter, and since it was Burger Day I also got ₩2,000 off, haha (next year's Burger Day, I'm coming back to Downtowner ><)

The Downtowner Double Burger comes with 2 beef patties, 2 pairs of bacon, 2 slices of American cheese, 2 slices of grilled onion, romaine, tomato and house sauce.

I'd always stuck to the regular size, and this was my first time trying a double patty. With two patties it felt twice as juicy, and it's seriously filling! The onion, tomato and romaine were all fresh too, so good...!!

Honestly, out of all the Downtowner branches I've been to, this Cheongdam branch was the tastiest. The juicy patty kept steaming, so it stayed hot to the very end! If it's your first time at Downtowner, I hope you'll try the signature Downtowner Burger, which I had, or the avocado burger 😋

Are Downtowner's garlic butter fries worth the swap?

Downtowner's garlic butter fries aren't overly sweet, just pleasantly sweet, so I recommend them as the set's fries swap. I'd always had the regular fries and tried garlic butter for the first time this visit, and the sauce is sweet in just the right way, so good!!

They also drizzled on a very generous amount of sauce, so even the fries at the bottom were delicious. If you like sweet flavors, please try the garlic butter!!!

Which outings pair well with a stop at Downtowner Cheongdam?

Downtowner Cheongdam, a burger spot in Apgujeong Rodeo, is a nice place for a casual bite after a walk in Dosan Park, after shopping at the Apgujeong showrooms and Galleria Department Store, or after a movie at CGV.
