Taek has always loved unusual food... with the goal of conquering every cuisine in the world that exists in Seoul (since I can't exactly travel to each country myself;;). This time we charged into 🎶shanti shanti curry curry~🎶 Mandala Indian Lounge, located in Hapjeong‼️ Let's go take a look.

Getting to Mandala Indian Lounge: how far from Hapjeong Station?

Mandala Indian Lounge is 5 minutes from Hapjeong Station. We walked through the alleys people-watching along the way, and it appeared right in front of us!

The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building!! Go up the staircase on the side of the building and you're right there!

Ok...ok, I get it...calm down...

Leaving behind the sign loudly declaring it serves Indian food... let's head inside. Personally, I was surprised once I walked in... (in a good way)

Inside Mandala Indian Lounge: the vibe and our window seat

The moment you walk into Mandala Indian Lounge, the interior is so clean, and the tables are spaced so far apart that it felt spacious and had a really nice atmosphere!!!

We (Taek and Bom) sat by the window, and eating while looking out at the streets of Hapjeong made it feel even more open and pleasant! (Praising it before we've even eaten...)

There's a reason I'm going on like this... I've visited plenty of Indian restaurants before, and most of them have interiors with that stereotypical 'Indian' vibe... Mandala Indian Lounge's atmosphere is so sleek and nice that it really stood out by comparison.

The Mandala Indian Lounge menu — yes, hookah too

The menu at Mandala Indian Lounge, like other Indian restaurants, was packed with a wide variety of dishes. Now that we've checked out the interior, let's get ready to actually eat!

And oddly enough, Mandala Indian Lounge also has hookah on the menu??? *Hookah: a device and method of smoking a water pipe, commonly also called shisha. Since we're non-smokers, we just said 'huh, interesting' and immediately lost interest.

What's in the Mandala Indian Lounge couple set, and how much?

That day we ordered the couple set at Mandala Indian Lounge and chose the ₩15,000 minced lamb curry, bringing the total to ₩42,000. The couple set price can go up depending on which curry or naan you pick.

  • Tandoori chicken (half a chicken)
  • Samosa (2 pieces)
  • Minced lamb curry
  • Plain naan x2
  • Plain lassi x2

How does the plain lassi taste?

Of the couple set, the lassi — a traditional Indian drink — was served first!!

Bom went with the plain lassi~!

Lassi is a traditional Indian drink made by mixing yogurt + water (or milk) + spices/sweeteners, and apparently you can make all kinds of lassi by adding various fruits!! (shout out to GPT) Plain lassi has a sweet-and-tangy yogurt flavor!! Right up Taek's alley...!

Right after that, everything else was served all at once!!

Curry, samosa, plain naan, tandoori chicken — that's the lineup. First, let's go bother the samosa, our appetizer.

What does the samosa taste like?

Two pieces of samosa appetizer from the couple set

A samosa is a bit like a fried spring roll (chunkwon) stuffed with filling?? The main ingredient is potato, and it seemed like several other ingredients were mixed in too! Crispy and so tasty!

Is the tandoori chicken's spice smell strong?

Mandala Indian Lounge's tandoori chicken didn't have an overpowering spice smell, so we ate it up happily! *Tandoori: a traditional clay oven used in Indian cooking, and the cooking method associated with it (shout out to GPT).

Minced lamb curry and plain naan

The curry and plain naan. The couple set at Mandala Indian Lounge lets you swap naan for rice, but since this is Indian curry, we ordered naan to enjoy it more authentically.

Eating minced lamb curry and tandoori chicken together on top of naan, I swear I could see the Taj Mahal appear before my eyes!! It's authentic food, but it suited Korean tastes really well, and the couple set left the two of us pleasantly full — we ate really well and enjoyed it!

Mandala Indian Lounge hours and holiday closures

Mandala Indian Lounge is open weekdays from 12:00 to 23:00, with last order at 22:30, and closed on public holidays. The owner seems really dedicated to updating the business hours on Naver, so I'd recommend searching before visiting on red-letter days!

Mandala Indian Lounge has a bright, pleasant atmosphere that makes it a great spot for a date with a partner or a blind date!! And of course, the food is delicious too! This felt like a restaurant we'd keep coming back to — Mandala Indian Lounge.
