Today I'm introducing Manmok, a Daechi-dong lunch spot that's perfect when you're craving a proper eel bowl. I went looking for a good lunch near Seolleung Station and ordered the whole-eel bowl, and honestly, I was saying "so good" with every single spoonful.

Where is Manmok, and can you park?
Manmok is a Japanese restaurant specializing in eel bowls, near Seolleung Station. It's about 273m from Exit 2, so it's easy to reach by public transport.
There's room for about 2 cars in front of Manmok, but the space is tight and it may be full. I'd recommend calling the restaurant ahead to check.
Parking lots near Manmok
- Large lot: WeWork Seolleung 3 branch parking lot
- Mechanical lots: Samjeong Building, Areumville, Nice Park Wondongbang Building
It'll be more convenient if you check availability and rates for these nearby lots before you go.

Is Manmok's atmosphere right for a lunch date?
Manmok suits a lunch date with a partner, but also an anniversary or a meal with your parents. Soft lighting and elegant wood interiors come together for a feel that's warm yet refined.

With no noise around, I could focus even more on the food. There are solo seats too, so it looks great for eating alone.

Group reservations are said to be possible, so if you're planning a gathering or an important meal, ask the restaurant.

Manmok's menu and what comes with the eel bowl
Manmok's lunch menu is the eel bowl; dinner offers eel nabe (hot pot) and grilled eel.

- White kimchi and seasoned radish
- Matsutake mushroom broth and sesame dressing salad

- Chawanmushi, the pudding-soft steamed egg you get at Japanese restaurants

Before the eel, I'm starting with a cold cola^^ It was a hot day, so I was really happy they brought a cup of ice too.
How was Manmok's whole-eel bowl?
What I ordered was the whole-eel bowl (한마리)! Manmok uses freshwater eel from Gochang, known as Korea's leading freshwater eel region, and focuses on bringing out the eel's natural flavor.

Kanto-style: grilled, steamed, then grilled twice more
I was especially impressed that they stick to the Kanto-style method. The eel is grilled first, then steamed, then brushed with their special sauce and grilled over charcoal two more times. This reportedly cuts the grease while keeping the eel's tender texture and deep flavor.
I was excited even before eating, and after one bite I understood why they focus so much on eel bowls. The eel's richness and the sauce's savory depth blended beautifully with the rice.

You get that nutty eel flavor, yet it doesn't sit heavy in your mouth. It stays clean, which I liked even more.

Above all, putting eel on rice for one spoonful, then another, I kept saying how good it was. Haha. Every bite was so satisfying that I wanted to savor it slowly, yet I couldn't wait for the next spoonful!

Topping the eel bowl with the side garnishes
Manmok's eel bowl is delicious on its own, but the garnishes served alongside give it another charm. I topped the eel with pickled radish, wasabi, pickled ginger and pickled sancho (Sichuan-like Korean pepper) to taste, and the combinations got even richer.
The crunch of the pickled radish, the kick of the wasabi and the freshness of the ginger blended with the eel's flavor, so I enjoyed it right to the last bite.

The food was great, but being able to eat at leisure in a quiet, comfortable space made it even more memorable for me.

Dessert: choose matcha or black tea ice cream
After the meal, Manmok serves ice cream for dessert. You can pick matcha or black tea, so we chose one of each. Both the matcha and black tea flavors were rich, which made them a great finish after eel.

If you join the review event, you get alcohol: draft beer or sake depending on the number of reviews.
Why I recommend Manmok for a Daechi-dong lunch date
- First, delicious eel bowl
- Second, a quiet, upscale atmosphere
- Third, friendly staff
It's a good place for days when you want to talk over great food in a calm space rather than a noisy one, or when you're looking for a nice lunch date spot near Seolleung Station. Great eel bowl, great mood. If you're searching for a Daechi-dong lunch or an eel bowl near Seolleung Station, enjoy a relaxed meal at Manmok. Like me, you might find yourself saying "so good" with every spoonful. :)
