Sanbon pizza place: mozzarella pizza set with wings, Seonmyeonghui

Jagajebbang Seonmyeonghui Pizza, Gunpo Branch (자가제빵선명희피자 군포점) is a pizza restaurant known for its black rice dough, located at 16 Yongho 1-ro in Gunpo, Gyeonggi, near Sanbon Station and the Dang-dong shopping area. Eating in with family, the writer ordered the dine-in combo set of a medium mozzarella cheese pizza with wings, drumettes, fries and salad, and enjoyed the stretchy cheese, chewy crust and big-screen sports atmosphere. Jagajebbang Seonmyeonghui Pizza in Gunpo suits families and pizza-and-beer fans who want freshly baked pizza rather than delivery.

Sokcho sashimi restaurant: summer-break lunch platter at Sinhaeburi

Sinhaeburi Hoejip (신해불이횟집) is a sashimi restaurant in the Daepo Port fishery center in Sokcho, Gangwon, with free round-trip pickup from anywhere in Sokcho. On a summer-break lunch with family, the writer ordered the large mixed sashimi platter of flounder, rockfish, amberjack and sea bream, which came with more than 10 side dishes (skidashi), complimentary mul-hoe (cold raw fish soup) and spicy fish stew. The wasabi at Sinhaeburi Hoejip wasn't freshly grated, but it was a satisfying meal for a family trip.

Sokcho market fried seafood, baby crab like whale crackers: Hwangbuja

Hwangbuja Twigim (황부자튀김) is a stuffed squid and tempura shop in the fried food alley of Sokcho Tourist Fish Market (Jungang Market) in Sokcho, Gangwon. On a family trip, the writer took home king shrimp tempura, baby crab tempura and plain squid sundae (stuffed squid) to eat at their lodging, and the kids happily ate the crispy baby crab tempura, calling it Goraebap after the whale-shaped Korean cracker. With young children, the plain squid sundae at Hwangbuja Twigim is a safe choice, and the nurungji (crispy rice) squid sundae is worth trying next time.

Onjeong is worth another visit for anyone after a hearty gyeongyangsik meal with kids.

Sokcho tofu restaurant for three generations, tofu hot pot: Jinsol

Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu (진솔할머니순두부) is a third-generation tofu restaurant in the Haksapyeong sundubu village of Sokcho, Gangwon. On a summer-vacation family trip, the writer's family stopped at Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu after checking out of Delpino in Goseong and shared chodang sundubu (soft tofu), tofu hot pot and acorn jelly, with side dishes refilled at the self-serve bar. Verdict: with a big hall split into zones, baby chairs and dog-friendly seating, Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is an easy place for three generations to eat together.

Sokcho café on a family summer trip: sweet corn cake at Cafe Neorae

Cafe Neorae (카페너래) is a large bakery café with a view of Ulsanbawi rock in the Haksapyeong soft tofu village of Sokcho, Gangwon. On a summer-vacation family trip, after lunch at Yetgoeul Sundubu, the writer sat at a 2nd-floor window seat at Cafe Neorae with sweet corn cake, chocolate salt bread and a watermelon juice topped with ice cream. With a large parking lot and floor-to-ceiling windows up to the 3rd floor, Cafe Neorae is a good family stop, but dogs are not allowed.
