Where should we go for a dinner date with my husband? I thought of Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch (깐깐한족발 용봉점), a great Yongbong-dong spot where I had eaten so deliciously with my daughter last time. I had been thinking, Next time I have to come with my husband! So today we came for a cozy dinner date, just the two of us. Even on a weekday evening, this Yongbong-dong drinking spot is packed like it is the weekend every time we visit.

It is right along the road near Jeon Cheol-woo Intersection in Yongbong-dong, so it is easy to find. Street parking is possible in the evening~^^
Kkanjok, a Yongbong-dong drinking spot

The dining room is spacious and clean, with a screen and slightly dim lighting, so it has such a nice atmosphere for drinks in Yongbong-dong that it is always full. My husband was surprised after visiting and asked, “What day is it today?” He was shocked to see so many people even though it was a weekday, haha.
Choosing Goheung fresh garlic jokbal for dinner
Menu

Today’s choice was Goheung fresh garlic jokbal. The half-and-half option and charcoal-grilled jokbal are popular too, but after trying the Goheung fresh garlic jokbal with my daughter, I just cannot switch to another menu item;;^^
Goheung Fresh Garlic Jokbal ₩45,000

This is the basic spread that comes with your order~ The cabbage salad generously topped with black sesame sauce was refreshing too.

We let the fish cake soup we would share bubble away, then ate the fish cakes first and later sipped the broth between bites of meat. The fish cakes are wonderfully chewy. Now that the weather has turned cooler, it feels like the season when a warm broth is especially welcome, haha.

The soft steamed egg is complimentary too! Fresh garlic sauce can be intense, you know? When I needed a break from the sauce, a bite of this gently and softly reset my palate.

Vegetable prices have been so high lately. That made the generous serving of vegetables even more welcome, haha. Add pickled radish, then wrap the jokbal in perilla leaf and lettuce—absolutely delicious! When we come with the kids, I can picture them eating the jokbal first when wrapping it feels like too much work, then eating perilla leaves one at a time later. It is amazing how identical the siblings look when they do that, haha. Do other kids do that too? Haha.

Jokbal dipped in fresh garlic sauce
Ta-da! Here comes the jokbal! What an appetizing, brown-smoked visual! This is Kkanjok, the Yongbong-dong favorite!^^ One side has plenty of lean meat, while the other has a fattier cut, so you can choose what you like.^^

I first took a bite after dipping it deeply into the spicy, pleasantly bitter Goheung fresh garlic sauce. Mmm! This is the flavor!! There was not a hint of gaminess, and the skin was springy with a texture that clings nicely in the mouth! It is so tender that I could eat it without worry even though I am having dental treatment these days.^^

It is also absolutely delicious simply with perilla leaf, lettuce, and chojang (sweet-spicy vinegar sauce)! The tender meat is moist and bouncy, filling your mouth with juices, so we cleared it in no time, haha.

When you eat the jokbal at Kkanjok, a Yongbong-dong favorite, it is impossible to resist the temptation of an ice-cold beer, haha. After a piece of meat, a cold glass of beer makes everything taste even cleaner and better! You all know what I mean, right? Maybe that is why it is so popular as a Yongbong-dong drinking spot, haha. My husband and I had a lovely dinner date over Goheung fresh garlic jokbal at Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch. If you have not tried this menu yet, I highly, highly recommend it. It is delicious even if you simply add the sauce to regular jokbal.^^
