Sundaeguk your way at a Suwon Station soup spot: Yetnal Gyeongseong

Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk (옛날경성순대국) Suwon Station branch is a restaurant specialising in sundaeguk (Korean blood sausage soup), pork gukbap (pork and rice soup) and pork bone hangover soup, next to the Maesan-dong Community Center on Rodeo Street near Suwon Station. On a Saturday evening, the writer and her mother had a spicy sundaeguk and a plain sundaeguk without sausage, and she liked that table ordering lets you leave out or pick the sausage, head meat and innards, and that the self-serve bar even has Yakult. Yetnal Gyeongseong Sundaeguk is a good stop near Suwon Station when you want a bowl of gukbap made your way.

Post-exam solo tonkatsu in Hongdae, triple katsu to go: Katsu Monster

Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch (카츠몬스터 연남본점) is a tonkatsu restaurant tucked into the backstreets of Yeonnam-dong, a walk from Exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station in Mapo, Seoul. Worn out after an exam and shopping in Dongdaemun, the blogger ate alone at a bar seat and swapped the 22,000 won solo set to a loin, fillet and cheese triple katsu. The portion was so large that the leftovers went home and fed the blogger and Mom twice more. The cold soba order was missed, but Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch still delivers crispy-outside, juicy-inside tonkatsu that leaves you full.

Suwon chicken and perilla oil noodles with Mom: Haenggung Jangjak

Haenggung Jangjak Hanbang Tongdak (행궁장작한방통닭) is a wood-fired whole chicken restaurant in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, near the South Gate chicken street. The writer booked on Catch Table and went with her mom before 5 pm on a weekday, ordering the corn cheese gratin sauced wood-fired chicken and fragrant perilla oil buckwheat noodles with a Coke, and took the leftover chicken home because the portion was bigger than expected. The verdict: the chicken and buckwheat noodle pairing at Haenggung Jangjak Hanbang Tongdak is outstanding.
