Sangsu ramen shop: loaded basic ramen & daytime highball, Ramen Truck
In short
Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch is a ramen shop in Mapo, Seoul, a 2-minute walk from Sangsu Station, in business since 2013. The writer ordered the basic ramen (₩11,000) with extra egg, cheongyang chili, bean sprouts, scallion, menma (bamboo shoots) and a large sheet of nori, and paired it with a daytime Rat Highball (₩7,000). Ramen Truck's basic ramen has a clean chicken-and-pork broth, and it is the bowl the writer always comes back to.

What is Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch?
Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch (라멘트럭 상수본점) is the old-timer ramen shop that has been guarding Sangsu for years. Regulars call it "Rat" (라트). There are also branches in Mokdong, Konkuk University and Janghanpyeong, and I finally visited the original Sangsu main branch after a long while. Every time I come, basic ramen plus a highball is a must, so of course I ordered the Rat Highball (= Suntory highball) too!

What did I order at Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch?
I ordered basic ramen loaded with extra toppings and two Rat Highballs. The ramen is simply the basic ramen at the very top of the menu. I order it every single time. I've tried other menu items before, but I always end up circling back to the basic ramen.
- Basic ramen
- Extra egg (single)
- Extra cheongyang chili (spicy green chili)
- Extra bean sprouts (single)
- Extra scallion (single)
- Extra big nori (5 pcs)
- Rat Highball ₩7,000 x 2
Because you need a couple of highballs from the daytime to live out "when I wake up, the first thing I do is give up on the day"!

How much is the basic ramen at Ramen Truck, and how does it taste?
The basic ramen at Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch costs ₩11,000. It's the Signature Ramen, with a mixed chicken-and-pork broth and a light flavor you won't get tired of even eating it every day. So much time has passed. The price has gone up a lot since my first bowl, and I can really feel inflation.

I don't add chashu (braised pork slices). Add chashu and you get full fast, which is the curse of a small eater.

What is the Rat Highball?
The Rat Highball at Ramen Truck is a highball made with Suntory whisky on a tonic water base. I always order a highball. If the owner of Rat is reading this, please make a soda-water-based highball too... Even Suntory Myeongga makes theirs with soda water, and since I've been staying even further away from sugar lately, I only drink highballs with soda water.

What are the side dishes and seating like?
At Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch, the side dishes go into the small black dish in front of your seat. Just take as much as you plan to eat.

There are bar seats, so eating alone is easy and nobody makes you feel awkward. Ah, but why would you care what others think when you're eating alone? I don't care even at a table seat... but since some people do, here's a tip.

Which toppings should you add to Ramen Truck's basic ramen?
Extra bean sprouts, extra cheongyang chili and extra menma (seasoned bamboo shoots) are absolutely non-negotiable. Please, definitely, 必 essentially, add them!

This is the 4-person seating.

The Rat Highball is so good. It's made on a Suntory whisky base, so it goes down easily.

Wahaha

Adding an egg is a stroke of genius. When Ramen Truck started out as a truck, it was honestly pure Japanese vibes...

It's an easy-to-find ramen shop just 2 minutes on foot from Sangsu Station, and the food is good too, so there's no reason not to go.

I hope there will be even more ramen shops that stick to the basics like this.

I love menma, so I always add it without fail.

That crunchy menma texture is also great as a drinking snack. I finished my highball and ordered another.
How much are the other ramen at Ramen Truck?
At Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch, Shin Ramen, Jin Ramen and Iekei Ramen are all ₩12,000.
- Shin Ramen ₩12,000: for people who like spicy food; the spicy paste (dadegi) costs ₩1,000
- Jin Ramen ₩12,000: a rich tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen for customers who like it thick and strong
- Iekei Ramen ₩12,000: Fukuoka style
Maybe I'll try the Shin Ramen next time..?

Egg is protein, so I added that, but I didn't add extra noodles. But I must have been extra hungry that day, because I finished all the noodles!

I'm also curious about the cold ramen, which is a summer-only item, so I'm thinking of trying it next time.
What are the hours, parking and delivery at Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch?
Ramen Truck Sangsu Main Branch is open every day with no days off, 11:00–21:30, with last order at 21:00. Parking is available too! Takeout and delivery are offered, so you can enjoy ramen easily at home. When I lived alone I often had ramen delivered, and since you just pour the broth over the noodles, it's so convenient and nice.
Since 2013, Ramen Truck has been going since 2013. Try it at the original Sangsu main branch... Trust me... you won't regret it...
They also sell a Mega Highball, but I hate how fast the ice melts, so I ordered the regular Rat Highball. There's a chashu event in the news section of the Place coupons, so please be sure to grab the benefit.
