Couple set lamb skewers in Gyeongan-dong, Gwangju: Sinbaegok

Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch is a Harbin-style lamb skewer and Chinese restaurant on the second floor of a building on Gwangju-daero 55beon-gil in Gyeongan-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi. Visiting with parents as a party of four, the writer ordered the couple set plus fish-fragrant eggplant, smashed cucumber (oi tangtangi) and boiled dumplings, then added egg fried rice and sausage skewers, and found no gamey lamb smell at all despite a smell-sensitive palate. Open until 2am with parking fees covered, Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch works just as well for a family dinner as for a late second round of drinks.

Spicy katsu and icy cold soba at a Chuncheon katsu spot, Jeongseong

Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch is a pork cutlet (donkatsu) restaurant in the food alley by the back gate of Gangwon National University in Chuncheon. A couple stopped in after a two-day Chuncheon trip and ordered the Jeongseong mixed katsu set, the spicy pork cutlet set and the icy cold soba, and the best part of the meal was cooling down the buldak-level spicy cutlet with the chilled buckwheat noodles. For a balance of heat and fried food, order Jeongseong Katsu's spicy pork cutlet with the cold soba.
