What is Bored & Hungry Mapo?

Bored & Hungry Mapo is a trendy burger restaurant serving up bold American flavor right in the middle of Hongdae and Sinchon's fierce burger battleground. Bored & Hungry has become a signature spot in Seongsu-dong, but now that I can get the same taste near my place in Mapo/Daeheung, I end up visiting at least once a month. Apparently Bored & Hungry takes its burgers seriously enough to have won a Best Burger award on America's 'Good Morning America' back in 2022!

Location and parking — right on the Gyeongui Line Forest walking path

This Sinchon burger date spot, Bored & Hungry, sits roughly between Sinchon, Hongdae, and Daeheung Station. It's right on the Gyeongui Line Forest path, so it's a great stop to drop into for a meal while out on a walk. There's also the affordable Sinsu Public Parking Lot nearby, which makes it convenient to visit by car too.

The vibe inside and how to order

This Daeheung Station burger spot has a trendy interior with a bright, pleasant atmosphere. With both 2-person and 4-person tables set up, it's a good place to eat solo too. Ordering was done through a QR code on the table.

Drink refills at the self-serve bar

At the self-serve bar at Bored & Hungry Mapo, cup holders, ketchup, and cutlery are all laid out. You can pour your own drink and refill it as many times as you like — a real plus for this Daeheung Station burger favorite.

What we ordered and just how much food that was

The sheer volume at this Gyeongui Line Forest / Sinchon burger spot is impressive. The side menu goes well beyond just fries — options like butter garlic fries and corn ribs, things you don't easily find elsewhere, let you customize the flavors even further. Drinks came in an ice cup with a holder. I also liked that you could swap out your soda for a milkshake, giving you more choice.

Cajun Fries vs. Butter Garlic Fries

A flavor that goes perfectly with soda or beer, glass after glass. I've always been a Cajun-fries-only person when it comes to burger sides, but the garlic chips scattered over Bored & Hungry's butter garlic fries here at this Gyeongui Line/Sinchon/Daeheung Station burger favorite added a spicier, more interesting texture and flavor that I really enjoyed. Even the plain fries here aren't really plain — they're Cajun-seasoned — so they pair extremely well with soda and Bored & Hungry's burgers, which are already packed with exotic flavor. Besides the butter garlic fries, I'd also recommend the corn ribs, one of Bored & Hungry's signature sides!

How's the burger? A fluffy bun and a richly smoky patty

True to a Sinchon date-spot burger near Daeheung Station, it's a combo of salty cheese and beef patty with deep smoky, meaty flavor. The fresh vegetables gave a crisp texture and flavor that stood out. What really defines Bored & Hungry's burgers, on top of the good fillings, is how truly fluffy and soft the bun is. It wraps around the generous fillings gently, which made the overall balance of flavor even better.

Chipotle Spicy Burger — a flavor that even cures a hangover

A smoky, juicy beef patty with fresh vegetables and the bright tang of tomato, with a spicy-but-smooth chipotle sauce as the highlight. I'd had a bit too much to drink the night before and needed something to help me recover, and this hit the spot perfectly. And once again, that fluffy bread didn't overpower the fillings' texture or flavor — everything came together in great balance.

The Classic Cheese Double — a basic cheeseburger with double the patty! The salty, savory cheddar cheese and the deeply smoky, juicy beef patty worked together beautifully. Adding Tabasco turned it into something even more addictive.
