Rainy weekday indoor camping date in Hongdae with kimchi stew: TAGE
In short
TAGE Indoor Camping Hongdae Main Branch is an indoor campsite on basement level 1 in Mapo, Seoul, about a 10-minute walk from Exit 9 of Hongik Univ. Station. On a weekday evening with rain in the forecast, the writer booked a 7 PM slot at a seat with Netflix and YouTube, ate fresh pork belly for two, old-style kimchi stew and instant rice, then played board games, sang karaoke and rested in a tent. A rainy-day indoor thing to do in Hongdae: TAGE Indoor Camping
TAGE Indoor Camping Hongdae Main Branch (티에이지실내캠핑장 홍대본점) is an indoor activity in Hongdae where you can get a camping mood in the middle of the city, whatever the weather. I'm totally into camping vibes lately, and rain was in the forecast, so I went looking for places to visit in Hongdae and found TAGE. I rushed right over! I'd heard it's hot on social media and that lots of celebrities have filmed here, so I was curious even before going.

How to get to TAGE Indoor Camping Hongdae Main Branch
TAGE is about a 10-minute walk from Exit 9 of Hongik Univ. Station, on the basement level of a building near Hongik University. Even the way down is decorated in green, like a forest.

What are the atmosphere and seats like?

I booked ahead and arrived around 7 PM on a weekday. The space is big, so luckily the seating felt fairly relaxed.

The interior is so pretty that every corner is a photo spot, and I had my phone out the moment I walked in. Each seat has its own concept, like the group seats, the mystery tree seat, and spots 11 and 12 with the cherry blossom tree.

Cookie the dog guards the entrance
A dog named Cookie sat calmly by the entrance, and he didn't seem shy with strangers at all. I'm usually scared of dogs, but Cookie was so cute I kept looking at him. That must be his favorite spot, because he was still there when we left.
The Netflix and YouTube seat, and the tent
TAGE has camping-restaurant-style seats where you can watch Netflix and YouTube, so we took one of those.

There's also a tent you can move in and out of freely from front and back, which seemed great for staying private and quiet. On top of that there was plenty to do: free karaoke (open-style, like a karaoke corner), board games, classic video games and shared Nintendo games.

- Round 4: 19:00–23:00

What we ordered for our date for two, and the prices

Here's what we ordered at TAGE that day.
- Base fee ₩40,000
- Pork for two ₩26,000
- Old-style kimchi stew + soju ₩14,000
- Water ₩1,000
- Soju ₩5,000
- Instant rice, 210g ₩2,000

Thick fresh pork belly and the basic setup
When you order meat, they set up the grill plate and basic sides like lettuce, kimchi and pickled radish for wraps (ssam-mu).

Beside the table hang camping mood lamps, plates, scissors and disposable cups, which add even more to the camping feel.

I ordered fresh pork belly and it came out quite thick. Grilled golden, it was juicy and really good.

The self-service bar and the owner's service
If you run short of sides, use the self-service bar, which has kimchi, garlic, chili peppers, pickled radish and lettuce. They also said we could take the salt and pepper shakers to our table. The owner kindly gave us directions and checked in now and then to see if we needed anything.

Old-style kimchi stew and instant rice
The old-style kimchi stew I ordered as a side felt like something between jjageuli (a thick, reduced stew) and tuna stew. It was packed with meat and vegetables, so the broth was rich.

I thought the kimchi stew would go well with rice, so I ordered instant rice too and ate them together.

An evening of board games, karaoke and tent time
With a glass of soju, we used the board games and karaoke freely in between,

and lying down in the tent, we lost track of time completely. By the way, TAGE lets you have outside food delivered or bring takeout, so it looked easy to enjoy however you like.

You get a romantic night mood in a cool, comfortable space, so I'd guess it's a popular date course for couples. Each seat has a slightly different theme and props, so next time I'd like to try a different seat.
Who is TAGE Indoor Camping Hongdae Main Branch for?
My impression of TAGE Indoor Camping Hongdae Main Branch is of an unusual indoor campsite where you can fill an evening with romance in the middle of the city without worrying about the weather. There's so much to do that it seems a good choice for company dinners, group gatherings and outings, and for anyone wanting a comfortable place to relax on a rainy day. If you're looking for something different to do near Hongdae, or want to grill meat and relax with a tent feel, it's worth a visit.
