The place is full of lively energy starting with the exterior. Seeing the fresh seafood swimming in the tanks at the entrance got me excited already, haha.

What's the patio table atmosphere like?

There's an outdoor patio table area outside the shop. With weather like this, you can't just walk past it! It was a perfect setting for eating while soaking up the air.

What did we order? Mixed sashimi, raw shrimp and butter-grilled shrimp heads

You order on the tablet at your table. This day I picked the combo of mixed sashimi, raw shrimp sashimi and butter-grilled shrimp heads. I just sat down and finished ordering easily on the tablet.

Seaweed soup and grilled saury come as standard

Once you've ordered, hot seaweed soup comes out along with the basic side dishes. It was great for gently settling the stomach first, haha.

And that's not all! Golden grilled saury also came out as a freebie, which got my appetite going even more.

How does the red snapper and flounder sashimi taste?

The mixed sashimi at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch was red snapper and flounder that day, piled generously on the plate.

And here it is, the star of the day!

I picked up a piece of red snapper and the flesh was really chewy, with a mild richness and nutty flavor spreading through my mouth!

Best ways to eat red snapper: aged kimchi, wasabi, soy sauce, chogochujang and garlic ssamjang

Time for the many-ways combo!

Putting snapper on well-aged kimchi with a little sharp wasabi is great, and dipping it in salty soy sauce to enjoy its true flavor is the best too.

Dunking it in plenty of chogochujang (sweet-and-sour chili sauce) or in pungent garlic ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste) is part of the fun, and my chopsticks just wouldn't stop, haha.

With such a great side for drinking, it would be a shame to skip a cold somaek (soju mixed with beer), right? The perfect mood for a sweet, easy-drinking night :)

Is the raw shrimp sashimi in Guwol-dong fishy?

The raw shrimp sashimi at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch had quite large shrimp and no fishy taste at all. The next star was the raw shrimp, where you can feel the freshness of shrimp that were practically still jumping! The shrimp are big too, so you feel the heft when you put one in your mouth.

Raw shrimp can taste fishy if it's not done right, but here that's never the case. Anyone who likes raw shrimp sashimi will love this place, and I can honestly vouch for it.

Butter-grilled shrimp heads

I asked for the heads cut off the raw shrimp to be made into butter-grilled shrimp heads. The sauce was spicy and addictive, a huge hit! The plump shrimp meat went really well with it too, haha.
