If you're looking for a good sushi place in Songdo, this is one I can recommend with confidence! I was very happy with it on my first visit last year, and this return visit was satisfying too 👍🏻

How long is the holiday wait at Sushi Doku The Songdo?
Around 12 p.m. on the holiday, a whopping 12 teams were waiting outside Sushi Doku The Songdo. I came right at opening, and since it was a red-letter day, the entrance was already bustling with waiting customers!

Honestly, it wasn't like this when I first visited last year...?! Word of mouth must have really spread, because it's now Songdo's signature sushi place with a line at opening. Luckily I'd booked ahead, so I got in right away without waiting 😎
I took the waiting photo above around 12 p.m. after finishing my meal, and there were 12 teams waiting...! 🫢 If you're planning a visit, definitely book on Naver. Our time is precious..

Is Sushi Doku The Songdo a good sushi restaurant for kids?
Sushi Doku The Songdo has sushi sets, sashimi, à la carte dishes and even a kids' menu, so it's a great sushi place to visit with a child. I strongly recommend it to parents who hesitated to go to a sushi restaurant because there was nothing for their kids to eat!!!! You can eat all the delicious sushi you want without the guilt(?) haha
We ordered 🍣 two Premium Sushi Sets and one kids' set.

A small brush for soy sauce
One of the cute touches at Sushi Doku is that they give you a small brush for putting soy sauce on the sushi. At other sushi places I usually dip pickled ginger in the soy sauce dish and use that, but brushing it on somehow feels fancier... ✨ It's a small thing, but it's part of Sushi Doku's charm haha

Food comes out a little slowly right after opening
With customers pouring in all at once at opening, the kitchen looked really busy. So the food took a bit longer than I expected T_T Hurry uppp I'm hungryyyy

While waiting, I agonized and then ordered a Suntory highball. I hadn't planned to drink...^^; but eating sushi without a highball just feels a little off, right? It was sweet yet clean, and went really well with the sushi!
They also set out cute kids' tableware separately 👧🏻

What comes with the Premium Sushi Set (₩25,900)?
The Premium Sushi Set at Sushi Doku The Songdo is ₩25,900 and comes as a full spread: 10 pieces of sushi plus salad, udon, chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard), karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and shrimp tempura. The food I'd been waiting and waiting for finally arrived! My mood lifted from the moment I saw the neatly arranged table. It's a lineup that's a treat for the eyes even before you eat 👀

The 10 pieces in the Premium Sushi Set are flounder, sea bream, salmon, squid, sweet shrimp, akami (lean tuna), red shrimp, red snow crab meat, eel and ankimo (monkfish liver). The staff explained that it's best to start with the milder white fish, then go on to salmon, tuna and eel.

Salad with sesame dressing
The salad that came with it was great too! It's topped with sesame dressing, and the vegetables were fresh and zesty, which made it a good appetizer before the meal. Eating it in between also cleansed my palate, which I liked.

Udon without shichimi, for the kid
And the dish I raved about on last year's visit too: the udon!! Honestly I used to think sushi-restaurant udon was all the same, but Sushi Doku's udon is really good..
Seeing that I'd come with a child, the staff asked first whether they should leave out the spicy shichimi powder (Japanese seven-spice). That kind of thoughtfulness really touched me... 🥹 So I shared one bowl without shichimi with my daughter, and once again it was delicious.

Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) with truffle oil
The chawanmushi has a little truffle oil on top, so the truffle aroma spreads subtly and gives it a more luxurious feel! The egg custard itself was also incredibly soft and rich.

Karaage and shrimp tempura
The karaage and shrimp tempura come with tartar sauce. I was happy with both the salty karaage and the shrimp tempura packed with plump shrimp. It felt like they'd cared about the side dishes, not just the sushi.

How the aged sushi with brushed-on soy sauce tastes
I poured soy sauce into the dish, brushed a little on, and took a bite... and every single piece felt so precious haha. I could taste the chewy texture and deep savoriness typical of aged fish, and the soy sauce they use felt a little different from ordinary soy sauce. It didn't overpower the ingredients and lifted the flavor of the sushi even more!

What's in the kids' set (₩9,900), and how big is it?
The kids' set at Sushi Doku The Songdo is ₩9,900 and comes with one tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), shrimp sushi, egg sushi, inari sushi (tofu pouch sushi), smiley fries, salad and a clear soup. A kids' set for my very own kid 👧🏻

It's packed with things kids love, so it's a combo that can't fail! Sure enough, my little girl ate it eagerly haha. For a preschooler, the portion is quite generous! And all this for ₩9,900.. what a bargain 👍🏻

Sushi Doku The Songdo review event and after-meal extras
One more thing! At Sushi Doku The Songdo, if you write a Naver receipt review, they give you a premium otoro (fatty tuna) sushi worth ₩6,900 as a free service.

Of course I wrote the review! I finished the meal by happily eating the otoro sushi I got as a service.

After the meal I also had a cup of the plum tea (maesil-cha) set out at the entrance. Cleansing my palate with sweet, cool plum tea made the ending perfect haha

By the cashier there were not only toothpicks but also mouthwash and dental floss, and you could feel how attentive Sushi Doku The Songdo is.

Second visit to Sushi Doku The Songdo: overall verdict
After my first visit last year, this was my second, and Sushi Doku The Songdo once again lived up to expectations! Taste, service and set composition: nothing disappointed, and with such a well-prepared kids' menu it's a great Songdo restaurant to visit with a child 👧🏻 I can recommend this Songdo sushi place for family meals, dates, get-togethers with friends and even group dinners 🍣❣️
