Korean BBQ near Lotte Dept Store, Guwol-dong: ₩4,000 soju at Midonjip
In short
Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch is a pollack roe (myeongnan) pork belly restaurant in Guwol-dong, Incheon, between Lotte Department Store and the back of the police agency, where staff grill the meat for you. On a Monday evening, two friends shared the Mi Set (₩39,900) with beer and finished with scallion fried rice (₩6,000), blanketed in cheese and torched at the table. With ₩4,000 soju and fried rice that satisfied to the last bite, Midonjip is a Guwol-dong pork belly spot worth revisiting.

I met up with a friend in Guwol-dong after ages! We decided on roe pork belly at Midonjip (미돈집), supposedly a top pork BBQ spot in Guwol-dong.

Where is Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch, and what is the vibe?
Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch is straight ahead from Lotte Department Store in Guwol-dong, around behind the police agency. The address is 63 Inha-ro 507beon-gil, Namdong-gu, Incheon, 1st floor, unit 120.
I couldn't tell from the sign, but maybe because it's a newer pork BBQ place, the interior was clean and café-style.

There was also a terrace with an outdoor-pub (야장) feel. Even on a Monday evening, a few tables were already enjoying samsso (삼쏘, pork belly with soju). The place seats roughly 10 groups.

What are Midonjip's menu prices and what is in the Mi Set for two?
Pork belly at Midonjip is about ₩17,000 for a 200g serving, which isn't bad, and there were good-value set menus too. The Mi Set we ordered for two came with meat for two, doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and minari (water dropwort) for ₩39,900!!
On top of that I added a beer, and after finishing the meat we happily added the scallion fried rice (₩6,000).

Maybe because it's known for roe pork belly, they sell myeongran albap (roe rice bowls) too. There was a famous saying posted: "If you drink, your money disappears, but if you don't drink, your money disappears too." It's Monday, so I'll start light with a beer.

How much is soju at Midonjip?
You order by kiosk at Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch, and soju was ₩4,000. Most restaurants these days charge ₩5,000 for soju, so that's a pretty kind drink price!?

What side dishes come with the meal at Midonjip?
The basic side dish setup at Midonjip includes muksabal (chilled acorn jelly soup), salad, myeongi-namul (wild garlic pickles), green onion kimchi, mussam (pickled radish wraps), ssam vegetables and seasoned shredded scallions.

Do you have to grill the meat yourself at Midonjip?
Grilling service is included at Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch, so the staff grill all the meat for you. No effort needed to cook your own!
Here comes the roe pork belly. The staff laid the meat down neatly and warned us to be careful because the roe is hot and can pop.

Sizzle sizzle~ They added gosari (bracken), kimchi, mushrooms and minari, and we waited... one minute felt like ten. I was going crazy wanting to eat the meat... I grabbed the mushrooms and minari to snack on, and even those alone were delicious.. haha

What a glowing sight. Was that the neck meat or the roe pork belly.. anyway, it was delicious. It's not for nothing that this place comes up when you search for the best pork BBQ in Guwol-dong.
How is the doenjang stew in the Mi Set?
The doenjang stew in Midonjip's set for two is literally called "meat bomb doenjang stew." True to the name, it was packed with meat. I thought about ordering rice to eat with the stew, but barely held back to save room for the scallion fried rice.

Is the cheese worth adding to Midonjip's scallion fried rice?
Midonjip's scallion fried rice (₩6,000) includes a cheese topping, so you don't need to add a separate cheese side. This is exactly what I came for!!! We ordered it after finishing the meat, and despite its intense-looking color, it was surprisingly mild and tasty.
It arrived as one big bowl, and the staff asked, "Shall we put cheese on top?" I wondered if I'd have to pay for extra cheese, but it was simply included.
And the cheese came draped over the fried rice like a blanket. So much cheese!!! We also watched a mini fire show with a torch. It felt like 2.5 to 3 regular cheese add-ons.

Fried rice with cheese after meat, nothing bad about it. As expected, a Korean's dessert is fried rice on an iron griddle. The meat was great, but even the final fried rice was fantastic at Midonjip.

Is Midonjip in Guwol-dong worth going back to?
Midonjip Incheon Guwol Main Branch was a thoughtful Guwol-dong BBQ place that even looks after your manners on the way out. It was my first time at a BBQ place near the Arts Center, and I was happy it turned out so good: roe pork belly in Guwol-dong at Midonjip! With the clean interior and tasty fried rice, I've found a pork belly spot I'll visit often. I recommend it as a Guwol-dong pork BBQ favorite.
