Songdo cutlet spot for crispy fish cutlet with my son: Ogong Donkatsu

Ogong Donkatsu (오공돈까스) is a pork cutlet restaurant on the 1st floor of Smart Square Building B, near Jisikjeongbodanji Station in Songdo, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. On a one-on-one visit with a middle-school son, the cheese cutlet (14,000 won) came thick and packed with cheese, and the fish cutlet (11,000 won) had a thin, crispy coating over tender fish, and both were satisfying. With crispiness somewhere between Western-style donkatsu and Japanese katsu, handmade sauces and a friendly owner couple, Ogong Donkatsu is a Songdo cutlet restaurant worth a return visit.

Wonju cold noodle spot after Sogeumsan Grand Valley: mild jjukkumi

Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi (신기칡냉면&쭈꾸미) is a Korean restaurant in Munmak-eup, Wonju, Gangwon, right behind the Munmak bus stop, specializing in arrowroot naengmyeon (cold noodles) and stir-fried jjukkumi (webfoot octopus). After walking Sogeumsan Grand Valley for about 3 hours, a family of four arrived around 3 p.m. on a Sunday and shared 2 mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth) and a mild jjukkumi stir-fry for 2, cooling off with an icy muk (jelly) bowl and generously topped mul naengmyeon. Verdict: even a family that struggles with spicy food will be happy with Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi's mild jjukkumi stir-fry paired with cold mul naengmyeon.

Cold chogye guksu and hot kalguksu at a Songdo noodle spot: Eonyang

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Incheon Songdo Branch is a Korean restaurant in Songdo New City, Incheon, across from Songdo The Sharp Harbor View Complex 14, specializing in chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), dak-gomtang (chicken soup) and chogye guksu (chilled chicken noodles). After a weekend walk around Songdo, the writer had dinner there with her husband and daughter: chogye guksu topped with slushy ice and chicken kalguksu made with noodles aged for a day, plus a self-serve bar with a separate milder kimchi and both solo seats and group tables that made it an easy family meal. Eonyang Dak Kalguksu is a good Songdo spot on a hot day for pairing icy chogye guksu with steaming chicken kalguksu.

Soft serve café at Songdo outlet after a hot walk: vanilla, Wunder

Wunder Coffee Bar Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo Branch is a coffee and soft serve café inside the B1 food court of Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo (Songhyeona) in Yeonsu, Incheon. After walking to Songdo with family on a hot weekend, the writer's daughter had vanilla soft serve, her husband an iced Americano and the writer a café latte, with 1,000 won off for ordering two ice creams. Wunder Coffee Bar's soft serve, with its rich vanilla flavor and dense, chewy texture, was a post-walk treat that kids and adults both enjoyed.
