Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom (육대장 단계무실점) is a yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) and gukbap restaurant on the 2nd floor at 8 Roanokeu-ro, near Wonju City Hall and the bus terminal in Wonju, Gangwon. On a family trip, the writer ordered old-style yukgaejang (12,000 won), brisket seolleongtang (11,000 won) and spicy braised beef ribs (50,000 won) for dinner. The highlights were the spicy broth packed with chives and green onion, the cool, sweet kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and beef ribs tender enough for the kids. Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom is a reliable soup restaurant for a meal with children while traveling in Wonju.

Wonju gyukatsu restaurant, dinner with parents after Jecheon: Ichigyu

Ichigyu Wonju is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on the first floor of Lotte Cinema in Musil-dong, Wonju. On the drive back to Seoul from a Jecheon trip, the writer stopped at Ichigyu Wonju for dinner with their parents, ordering striploin gyukatsu, Japanese curry and truffle gyudon (beef rice bowl), and the building's 2 hours of free parking made the meal easy. Ichigyu Wonju tastes no different from the Gwanghwamun and Seoul Station branches, making it a great Wonju restaurant to take your parents to.

On the second day of an overnight Wonju trip, a family of four walked in as the first customers at opening and grilled tenderloin and striploin gyukatsu, striploin steki and Japanese curry on cast-iron plates, with free rice and curry refills. The writer's favorite at Ichigyu Wonju was the tenderloin gyukatsu with homemade shoga (ginger) sauce, and the whole family was happy with this trip lunch.

The writer returns to Ichigyu whenever a gyukatsu craving hits, and this time ordered the striploin gyukatsu and the striploin steki (unbreaded steak), grilling both to taste with Isigny butter on a personal grill. Haengbokhan Udong Gage Dangwan Branch is a retro-style udon and Korean snack restaurant at the Dangwan housing-site intersection in Dangu-dong, Wonju. On an early family dinner during a Wonju trip, the writer ordered gakgi udon (classic Korean-style udon, ₩8,500), a jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) rice bowl and bibim mandu (₩9,500).
