Gangneung café where tofu pudding sold out by lunch: Coffee Dripper

In short

Coffee Dripper (Drip.per) is a wood-toned, glass-walled dessert café on Nanseolheon-ro in Chodang-dong, Gangneung, right in front of Toetmaru Coffee. On a weekday lunch visit, the sundubu (soft tofu) pudding was sold out, so the writer ordered a corn choco latte, the Dripper signature cream latte, coffee soft ice cream and a black sesame croffin instead. All four had their own character, and the sundubu pudding alone has already earned Coffee Dripper a planned return visit.

I was out for a drive around Chodang-dong in Gangneung and finally made it to Coffee Dripper (커피드립퍼, Drip.per), a café I'd had my eye on for a while!

Turns out it's right in front of the famous Toetmaru Coffee (툇마루 커피)! The location felt oddly familiar, and now I know why.

The building's wood-toned exterior looks clean and stylish, so it's a perfect pick if you're hunting for a moody Chodang-dong café.

Hours can shift a little by season, so I'd recommend checking their Instagram or calling the shop before you go.

Glass-wall sunlight and seating

Inside, the ceilings are high and the walls are all glass, so the natural light is really good.

Big plants like monstera are placed here and there, which gives it a slightly exotic feel too.

There's a mix of hall tables, window seats and an outdoor terrace. Even at weekday lunchtime there was no waiting line, but the place was pretty packed.

I'd planned to eat the sundubu pudding, but they told me it was sold out, so sadly I had to save it for next time. T_T Instead I ordered their signatures: the corn choco latte, Dripper signature cream latte, coffee soft ice cream and black sesame croffin.

Prices were roughly like this.

  • Sundubu pudding ₩7,000
  • Black sesame croffin (croissant-muffin hybrid) ₩5,500

Four signatures reviewed

First off, everything I ate was delicious. Nothing was run-of-the-mill, and each had its own character, so I think I'll remember them for a long time.

Four Coffee Dripper items on the table

Dripper signature cream latte

The Dripper signature cream latte had a slight peanut butter flavor, at least to me. It's super smooth and sweet and goes down easily, so I recommend it if you like a mellow latte.

Corn choco latte for ₩8,000: worth it?

The cone in the corn choco latte is really good. At first, ₩8,000 felt a little steep.

But the cone isn't just coated in brown chocolate. There's an extra layer of white chocolate on the inside too. The cone is crunchy and nutty, and eating it with the latte was quite satisfying.

Black sesame croffin

I heard the croffin is croissant dough baked in a muffin tin, so going by looks I figured it was just bread. But it's packed with black sesame cream inside, and I was a bit surprised at the first bite.

It's crunchy outside with moist cream wrapped inside, and I kept reaching for more.

Coffee soft ice cream

They said the coffee soft ice cream is made in-house. It was less sweet than I expected, and I liked how the gentle coffee aroma came through. I think even people who don't like very sweet desserts can enjoy it.

Overall the interior is pretty and the menu quality is good, so it was a satisfying visit.

In-house coffee soft ice cream

Next time I definitely want to come back for the sundubu pudding that was sold out this time.

As a bonus, outside the shop there are stones made to look like luxury handbags, and they're so cute, haha! Everyone takes photos and leaves.
