Nowon sushi buffet, ₩31,900 weekday dinner: duck & crepes at Kuu Kuu

I stopped by Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch for the first time in a while. Say "sushi buffet" and you think of sushi first, but these days Kuu Kuu has a really wide range of grilled dishes, hot food and desserts too.

I went for weekday dinner, and there were more dishes I liked than I expected, from raw salmon sashimi to lamb chops and smoked duck. The tables are big and the seats are well spaced, so I think it suits anyone looking for a good spot in Nowon for a family gathering.

The standard time limit is 2 hours, and it says it may be cut to 1 hour 30 minutes when guests are waiting. The parking lot is behind the building. Weekends can get crowded, so I recommend booking ahead.

Is Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch spacious enough for a family gathering?

The interior uses white and wood tones, so the whole place felt bright and pleasant. Best of all, the tables are big and the seats are nicely spaced. At a buffet you end up carrying lots of plates, and it was easy to spread everything out and eat.

There are seats for families and space for group gatherings, so it looks fine for a big party too. When a family has different tastes, everyone can pick what they like, and that is the biggest strength of a buffet, right?

Norwegian salmon sashimi and the sushi selection

Sushi is the main event at Kuu Kuu, so at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch too I started by browsing the sushi station.

There was an especially wide variety of salmon and shrimp. They also had Norwegian raw salmon sashimi, and it was fresh and delicious :) It's nice that you can have it as sashimi when you want the fish plain rather than as sushi.

The flatfish (gwangeo) sushi was impressive too. The fish stretches far beyond the rice, so it looks like a long flatfish tail trailing off. Big-fish sushi, I welcome you. I picked out different kinds of shrimp sushi, and went back for the salmon I liked.

At a sushi buffet, the best part is really being able to eat as much of your favorite fish as you want.

Lamb chops and smoked duck: hot food at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch

After the sushi, I checked out the grill and hot food stations. There was a big variety, with Chinese and Western dishes and even made-to-order noodles.

What caught my eye this time were the lamb chops and smoked duck. The lamb kept its distinctive flavor, with a different appeal from the usual buffet meats.

The smoked duck had a nice chewy texture too. My friend went after nothing but the smoked duck! I started with sushi, then had lamb chops, smoked duck and hot food. After that I went back for the dishes I liked and even looked around the Western station.

Alternating seafood and meat gave me a lot more variety than eating just one kind of food.

Bead ice cream and the new crepes

You can't skip dessert at a buffet.

The dessert selection at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch was quite varied. It felt like lots of new items had come in to match current trends. Bead ice cream (tiny frozen ice cream balls) is something adults secretly love too. There was also a notice that bead ice cream, previously served at weekday dinner and on weekends, has been expanded to lunch as well.

I finished with bead ice cream and the newly released crepe. Adding coffee made it a perfect end to the meal.

I liked that Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch lets you enjoy not just sushi but meat, hot food and dessert too. Personally, the raw salmon sashimi, lamb chops and smoked duck were my favorites.

For ₩31,900 at weekday dinner you can eat as much as you like of lots of different dishes, and the roomy seating made the meal comfortable.

With a play room and group seating, Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch looks like a good choice for anyone seeking a family-gathering spot or a group meal in Nowon. I think I'll be back next time too.
