Hongdae brunch spot for daytime Kozel Dark and steak: Hôtel de Couture

Hôtel de Couture is a Western-style brunch restaurant in a Yeonnam-dong alley in Mapo, Seoul, about a 10-minute walk from Exit 3 of Hongik University Station. After a ring-making workshop date nearby, the writer stopped in for lunch and ordered a Kozel Dark beer, the house steak and the jambon cream risotto; the steak arrived slightly overcooked because no one asked how it should be done. If you order steak at Hôtel de Couture, state your preferred doneness when ordering, and mix the egg yolk through the cream risotto.

Weeknight late-night BBQ in Cheonan: gabrisal at Cham Dwaejitgan

Cham Dwaejitgan Cheonan Dujeong Branch is a late-night samgyeopsal (pork belly) restaurant in the Dujeong-dong food alley in Cheonan, open until 4am. On a weeknight visit with a friend, the order was ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) and gabrisal (pork jowl-side cut) with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and margarine soy sauce egg rice, and staff handled the grilling and cutting on a charcoal-and-rice-husk pan. For meat and a glass of soju late at night in Cheonan, Cham Dwaejitgan Cheonan Dujeong Branch is an easy choice.
