Gwanghwamun gyukatsu restaurant, Naver-booked weekend lunch: Ichigyu

Ichigyu Gwanghwamun Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on the basement level of Lemeilleur Jongno Town, midway between Gwanghwamun Station and Jonggak Station in Jongno, Seoul. Booking ahead on Naver Reservation meant walking straight in on a busy weekend lunchtime, and two basic sirloin gyukatsu plus cold soba & fried shrimp came to 50,000 won, with the thick sirloin cutlet grilled over charcoal with Isigny butter as tender as steak. Ichigyu Gwanghwamun Branch never seems to empty out, so reserving ahead is the easy way to eat here.

Jongno pizza pub open until midnight in Seoul: Backstreet Pizza

Backstreet Pizza is a basement handmade-pizza pub hidden in an alley one minute from Exit 5 of Jongno 3-ga Station in Jongno, Seoul. On a weekend visit at 7pm, the Quarter Street R (38,000 won) arrived as one pie split into four signature flavors, served with two RedRock beers (6,000 won each), and the Shrimp Gangster was the standout. With last order at 11:15pm, Backstreet Pizza works well as a second or third stop for pizza and beer near the Jongno pocha alley.
