How to find Backstreet Pizza from Jongno 3-ga Station Exit 5

To reach Backstreet Pizza, come out of Exit 5 of Jongno 3-ga Station and head into the alley between Jongno Nakji and Mega Coffee. You'll hit an alley so sketchy-looking you'll think, "Is there really a restaurant here?" — but if you spot a red door on the right, you've found it exactly, no worries. (The lights weren't even on out front, so I thought it might be closed, but it was open haha ㅜ)

I got a bit lost and ended up entering through what seemed like a back door rather than the front! Right from the stairwell leading down to the basement, hip posters cover the walls, giving off a vibe like you're sneaking into a secret hideout..ദി ᷇ᵕ ᷆ )♡

What the basement space feels like on a weekend evening

The moment you step down the stairs into the space, a massive chandelier grabs your eye! The combo of the red-accented interior and the grand chandelier was seriously one-of-a-kind..

I went in around 7pm on a weekend evening, and at that point it was still pretty quiet. But by the time I left around 8:30, the tables were packed solid with everyone from group parties to couples on dates, a nonstop stream of guests! The interior is also quite spacious with well-laid-out tables, making it a great pick for a Jongno work dinner or group gathering spot too *ᴗ ᴗ)⁾⁾♡

On one side of the restaurant there's a neatly set-up self-serve bar! Water, napkins, hot sauce, and even parmesan cheese powder are all stocked so you can help yourself as needed. The fresh draft beer machine right next to it also catches your eye haha

What we ordered: Quarter Street R for 38,000 won and RedRock beer

Backstreet Pizza's menu is made up of a variety of handmade pizzas and drinks! Since Quarter Street bundles four signature pizza flavors together, I ordered it without a second thought. It seemed perfect for enjoying with a beer outside, like a Jongno late-night pizza-stall vibe.

Quarter Street R — ₩38,000 / RedRock beer — ₩6,000 x 2

Ta-da!! Finally, the Quarter Street pizza I ordered arrived along with cold RedRock beer! The overwhelming visual had me gasping the second it hit the table ( ៸៸ › ⩊ ‹ ៸៸)♡ RedRock beer has a cool, clean, easygoing lager taste, making it a perfect match with the salty, heavy pizza — a total Jongno pimaek combo!!

Four Quarter Street flavors: which one tasted best?

1. Shrimp Gangster

The first flavor I tried was "Shrimp Gangster," Backstreet's signature and my personal number one! There were seriously thick, plump whole shrimp piled on, three or four per slice..!!! I cut into a big shrimp and took a bite — the crunchy, springy texture was insane...(๓´﹃`๓)

2. Pepperoni Shotgun

Second up is "Pepperoni Shotgun," which has that American-style handmade pizza feel! Loaded with salty pepperoni, it practically begs for a beer haha. Thanks to that salty flavor, it was the best pairing with a cold beer!

3. Cheese & Patty Bomb

Third is "Cheese & Patty Bomb," which looked like an ordinary combination pizza at first glance. Since it looked the most plain, I bit in with zero expectations — and wow, total plot twist...! The rich cheese and deep meaty aroma hit hard, making it a surprisingly delicious, high-impact slice.

4. Potato Killer

The fourth and final flavor is "Potato Killer," overwhelming from the visual alone! A mountain of French fries drizzled generously with a sweet, honey-like sauce is piled on top of the pizza! While the earlier pizzas were mostly on the salty side, this Potato Killer was sweet, making for a perfect sweet-and-salty combo꒰ᐡ ›⸝⸝⸝‹ ᐡ꒱ 🤍

The dough and the garlic dipping sauce

The dough wasn't just plain and dense either — it was thin yet chewy, crisp on the outside, so I ended up eating every last bit down to the crust! Dipping it in the garlic dipping sauce that comes with it is pure honey-flavored bliss ㅋ ദി ᷇ᵕ ᷆ )♡

Overall, you could really feel that they didn't skimp on toppings at all — super satisfying! If you've been wandering the Jongno pocha street, Ikseon-dong, or searching for pizza near Jongno-gak, this is a spot you have to visit for the visuals alone...⸝⸝◜࿀◝ ⸝⸝ Since last order is until 11:15pm, it's also perfect to slot in as a second or third stop for a Jongno midnight food run.
