The writer and her partner brought a bottle of wine they had been given and paired it with the 55,000-won signature lunch set plus a 20,000-won corkage fee, working through a 2-hour course from focaccia to Basque cheesecake. For a special day without the usual fine dining price tag, Noju is a solid choice.
Huhugwan is a Hong Kong-style Chinese restaurant on the second floor of a building in Jung-gu, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Exit 10 of City Hall Station. Taking a Friday afternoon off, the writer arrived at 2:30pm and ordered Chinese-style boiled dumplings, garlic scape fried rice, beef noodle soup with the spicy option (+500 won) and yurinchi in squid-ink batter, with cider and Yantai draft beer. Every dish at Huhugwan had a clear character of its own, making it an easy Deoksugung date course to share between two people.
