The writer waited for a table even after the lunch rush, shared a small cuttlefish bulgogi (41,000 won) between two, then stir-fried flying fish roe fried rice in the leftover sauce. With pleasantly spicy sauce, plump cuttlefish and generous portions, Jogane Gabojingeo is a solid pick for a meal on a Mulwang Reservoir outing.

Sushi Doku The Songdo is a sushi restaurant on the 2nd floor of Onesta Mall (Songhyeon-a) in Songdo, Yeonsu, Incheon. On yet another repeat visit, the writer booked for 5pm, right when break time ends, and shared two Premium Sushi Set meals (₩25,900 per person) with her husband. She also received 2 pieces of otoro (fatty tuna) sushi free for a Naver receipt review. Lines are common at Sushi Doku The Songdo, so booking ahead is the way to go.

Yuksul (육술) is a Korean gastropub on the Gojan-dong food alley in Ansan, already well known for its beef sashimi. On a second-round visit, the writer ordered lemon cream shrimp (24,000 won) and cod roe potato gratin (15,000 won) at Yuksul, with beer served in a tumbler. Verdict: Yuksul is a good-value Gojan-dong bar for light second-round snacks, not just beef sashimi.

Gojan-dong, Ansan seafood bar: rock sea squirt platter at Susan Jang

Susan Jang (수산장) Gojan branch is a seasonal seafood izakaya on Gwangdeok-daero in Gojan-dong, Ansan. After work, the writer and a friend ordered the Mixed Seafood Platter (59,000 won), with three kinds of aged sashimi plus sea cucumber, abalone, scallop, sea squirt and rock sea squirt, and drank somaek (soju mixed with beer). Grilled flounder came as the complimentary side dish. Getting sashimi and seafood together for 59,000 won made Susan Jang great value, and the platter was good enough that they scraped the plates clean.

Aewol lunch restaurant, September cold bibim noodles: Handam Guksu

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a pork noodle restaurant on Aewol-ro in Aewol, Jeju, with an ocean view from every seat. Because September was still hot, the meal skipped the classic pork noodles for dongchimi bibim noodles at 10,000 won, dombe cold pork at 15,000 won and a torem-style lean pork rice soup at 10,000 won. The restaurant was already full early in the day, but the food came out fast and tables turned quickly, so Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is worth a stop for pork noodles and dombe cold pork in Aewol.
