Location and visit time at Tteokmama Cheongju Gaesin Branch
Tteokmama Cheongju Gaesin Branch is a return-gift tteok specialty shop located in Gaesin-dong, Cheongju. I've honestly lost count of how many times I've visited — it's one of my favorite return-gift rice cake shops in Cheongju. It's quite popular, so if you visit in the afternoon, there's a high chance many rice cakes will already be sold out ㅠㅠ

Parking
There isn't much parking around Gaesin-dong in Cheongju, but if you visit Tteokmama, a specialty 100-day tteok shop, you can park for free in the main building's basement garage.

Inside the store
Here's the interior of Tteokmama Cheongju Gaesin Branch. There are indoor seats where you can enjoy a simple coffee, so you can actually eat your rice cakes inside too.

There's also a separate 100-day table-setting set
Tteokmama, a Cheongju specialty 100-day tteok shop, actually has ready-made table-setting sets! The prices are reasonable depending on the rice cake lineup, so you can just order what you need without worrying too much, haha. Since everything here tastes great, I think any set you order will satisfy you!!
What kinds of return-gift rice cakes are there?
Freshly handmade rice cakes made early that morning were neatly and cleanly arranged on the display stands and shelves! There were many kinds — seolgi (steamed rice cake), jeolpyeon (pounded rice cake), yakgwa (honey cookie), chapssaltteok (sweet rice cake), and kkultteok (honey rice cake) — so it's really nice to pick according to your taste.

Jeolpyeon, garaetteok (long rice cake), and more were also available in mini sizes, with great pricing and portions for enjoying solo. Everything is individually wrapped for hygiene, so I could trust and eat it with total peace of mind, haha.

That said, since I visited on a weekday evening, a lot of rice cakes were already sold out, which was a bit disappointing ㅠㅠ

Fruit mochi chapssaltteok gift set and the premium set
My favorite item from Tteokmama — the fruit mochi tteok set! It's beautifully packaged and tastes amazing too, so it's always the first thing that comes to mind when I want to gift someone I care about, haha.

There are also premium sets you can pick based on your taste and have wrapped as a gift box — a lot of people seemed to buy those sets too!

From old-school honey twist doughnut gift sets to handmade oranda (Korean nut brittle),

all the way to yakgwa sets, Tteokmama, a return-gift rice cake specialty shop, offers a wide variety...

The box packaging is also extremely tidy with no fuss, giving both the giver and receiver a sense of formality — there are so many well-put-together return-gift sets! Besides return-gift tteok, there are many other gift sets too, so I'd recommend stopping by to browse in person.

This time, I again bought the fruit chapssaltteok and the handmade oranda set : )
How does the fruit mochi chapssaltteok taste?
Inside the round, soft chapssaltteok is a generous amount of sweet, large seasonal fresh fruit and soft sweet bean paste. Even my mom, who isn't a big fan of sweets, fell in love with this one and said it was so delicious!!!!

I was amazed by the chewy chapssal texture and the visual of fresh fruit juice bursting out ㅠㅠ. The moment you bite in, your mouth fills with a burst of fruit juice — not overly sweet, nutty, and chewy. Genuinely so good!

It works great as a snack for little kids, and it's also a thoughtful treat to include in a return-gift set for younger people — you'd totally get praised for your good taste ㅋㅋㅋ
Handmade oranda set review

Next up is the review of the handmade oranda set, which is the best as a gift for elders.

Unlike the hard, tooth-hurting store-bought oranda you usually get, this handmade gangjeong (Korean rice snack) is soft and crisp, with the sweetness of jocheong (rice syrup) and the nuttiness of nuts added in!

The set includes a variety of flavors — plain, gamtae (seaweed), chocolate, cranberry — and I enjoyed every single one : )
Final verdict
If you're looking for a rice cake shop in Cheongju, or searching for a tasteful, good-value return-gift or 100-day tteok specialty shop, I highly, highly recommend Tteokmama Cheongju Gaesin Branch!
