Clam hot pot restaurant with fried squid banchan, Daejeon: Widaehan
Widaehan Jogae Jeongol is a clam hot pot and clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on Daehak-ro in Dong-gu, Daejeon, just behind Woosong College. On a chilly autumn evening, two diners ordered the 2-person clam hot pot and added clam kalguksu, and while the pot came to a boil the banchan arrived: freshly fried squid legs, silkworm pupae, fried spring rolls and kimchi pancake. Hard clams, scallops and surf clams fill out the pot and the owner cleans the fan mussel, abalone and squid at the table, so the shellfish at Widaehan Jogae Jeongol tastes clearly a cut above.
