Mangwon nacho bar: pepperoni nachos with Hangang ramyeon, Macho Nacho

In short

Macho Nacho is a mix-it-yourself nacho bar on Huiujeong-ro in Mapo-gu, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Mangwon Hangang Park. On an early finish from work, the writer took out Macho Nacho's pepperoni pizza nachos (15,900 won) with a guacamole topping (3,000 won) and had a pre-sunset picnic with Hangang ramyeon (instant noodles cooked by the Han River) at Mangwon Hangang Park, looking out at Seongsan Bridge. Verdict: the pepperoni pizza nachos were more generous than expected, with fresh sauce and cheese, and made a great side for a Han River picnic.

Leaving work early for Mangwon Hangang Park

It's that lovely time of year! And the love bugs are hardly around this year. I left work early and headed to Mangwon Hangang Park to see some people and get some fresh air. I was a little hungry and planned to have Hangang ramyeon (instant noodles cooked at the park), so on the way I wondered what would go well with it. I found Macho Nacho, a Mangwon Han River favorite, on the map and dropped by.

How close is Macho Nacho to Mangwon Hangang Park?

Macho Nacho is a 3-minute walk from Mangwon Hangang Park, near the Hangang Park entrance intersection. From the outside it looks takeout-only, and yes, takeout is available, but there are also four tables inside, so you can eat in until late.

It's open from daytime drinking hours until 1 a.m., so I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Mangwon Hangang Park. With indoor seats and a restroom, it's perfect before or after a Han River picnic, or for a casual drink in Mangwon. It's a Mangwon Han River spot with an open kitchen that keeps things clean, and nachos are an unusual menu that makes for a special experience.

Customizable mix-in nachos at Macho Nacho

The nachos at Macho Nacho aren't finger food. They're a cold-style nacho where you choose your toppings and mix everything together. They say they use only good ingredients, including 100% real cheese, pork belly bacon and salsa made daily from fresh Korean vegetables, so it's filling enough for a full meal.

What do Macho Nacho's pepperoni pizza nachos taste like?

Macho Nacho's pepperoni pizza nachos taste just like eating pizza, as the name says. With warm, nicely browned pepperoni on top, it's guaranteed pizza flavor! 🍕

They lay the nachos on the bottom, add various sauces, then pepperoni, jalapeños and vegetables, pile on two cups of cheese and finish it with a torch -

I was surprised by how generous the portion was, and you can definitely tell the sauce and cheese are fresh. With several toppings you can mix and match, and next time I want to try the cilantro nachos or the beef brisket nachos. I'd never thought of putting toppings other than cheese dip on nachos, but everything went together better than I expected. Macho Nacho's toppings include bacon, pepperoni, soboro (seasoned ground meat) and beef brisket, lots of meaty options, so even one order felt filling.

Nachos and Hangang ramyeon with a Seongsan Bridge view

We reached Mangwon Hangang Park before sunset, found a spot with a view of Seongsan Bridge, and began a simple picnic with Hangang ramyeon and Macho Nacho's pepperoni pizza nachos. Near Mangwon Hangang Park there's also Seoul Battleship Park (Seoulham Park), plus a Starbucks, Subway, convenience stores and lots of other shops, so it's a great place to hang out.

How do you eat Macho Nacho's mix-in nachos?

They told me to crush the nachos with a fork, mix them up, and eat them well mixed. You have to crush and mix before the cheese melts so it spreads evenly over the chips. They'd also be great as a side with fried chicken and beer.

Is the guacamole topping worth adding?

The guacamole came as a scoop on one side of the container, so I ate it without mixing it in. It was good on the nacho chips and a fresh little palate cleanser in between bites. Above all, you could really tell the avocado was fresh, with pieces that were nice to chew!

Drinks to take out from Macho Nacho

Macho Nacho also sells drinks to go that pair well with nachos, including draft beer (₩4,000), highballs and tequila. The draft beer is always fresh because it turns over quickly.

Big portions and low prices: Macho Nacho is a Mangwon nacho spot that wins over customers with high volume and small margins! I recommend it as an easy bite for a Mangwon Han River picnic.
