Gangnam café open until 10pm, tiramisu and einspänner: Upper and Under

Hi everyone haha~ Today I visited Upper and Under, a café I'd recommend near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam! It's a large café open until late, sitting right between Gangnam and Sinnonhyeon stations, and it's an einspänner spot with wonderfully soft cream 😊

Where is Upper and Under, and how late is it open?

Upper and Under is a large café located at 618-17 Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, open daily from 11:00 to 22:00. The phone number is 02-557-6991.

This Gangnam café near Sinnonhyeon Station sits between Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6 and Gangnam Station Exit 11, so access is really convenient. With so many restaurants and bars nearby, plenty of people are looking for a large café open late. Upper and Under spans B1 through 1F and 2F, open until 10pm, making it an easy, no-pressure stop 👍

First-floor seats and the outdoor terrace at Upper and Under

The 1st floor at Upper and Under has a clean, modern feel with white tones and black accents. Because the bakery display case and counter share the space, there are fewer seats than on the 2nd floor, but the tables are still spaced comfortably.

Most tables seat 2 to 4 people, and along the window there are some raised partitioned seats with a nice atmosphere too~

There are also seats out on the terrace, so on nice weather days it seems like it'd be lovely to sit outside with good coffee and dessert haha

The second floor: floor-to-ceiling windows and plenty of seats

The entire 2nd floor at Upper and Under is filled with tables, so there are a lot of seats, and compared to the 1st floor, the furniture felt a bit more varied, giving it a freer, more relaxed atmosphere. The full glass windows offer a clear view outside, giving it a wonderfully open feel!

How many desserts are left if you arrive late in the evening?

Upper and Under is a large café famous for its wide, delicious range of desserts! There were financiers and canelés in various flavors like matcha, but since I visited late in the evening, a lot of the desserts were already sold out, ugh ㅠㅠ

Still, there was yellow cheese basque cheesecake,

tiramisu and raspberry cake,

and plenty of fruit cakes too, like lemon, Earl Grey grapefruit, and fig~

This is Upper and Under's menu! There's a wide variety of espresso drinks, cold brew, cream lattes, non-coffee drinks, ades and teas, so it's easy to pick something to your taste.

Iced latte, 7,000 won

Cool and smoothly nutty, the iced latte wasn't heavy at all, so it went down easily even in the late evening, and with a hint of acidity, the balance felt just right — I enjoyed it a lot haha

Iced einspänner, 8,000 won

Upper and Under's signature cream latte! It's an einspänner with soft milk and espresso shots topped generously with sweet cream.

With cocoa powder dusted over the piled-up cream, it looked so pretty and appetizing.

The chewy cream spread smoothly through my mouth, turning the bitter coffee sweet. I'll admit it — this place is a cream latte champion haha

Lemon madeleine 4,300 won and tiramisu 8,500 won

For dessert I ordered tiramisu and a lemon madeleine~ The lemon madeleine was full of refreshing lemon flavor, so even as a dessert it wasn't just plain sweet but bright and zesty — a flavor I usually love, and it wasn't too sour, with just the right amount of lemon. Delicious haha

I worried the tiramisu might have too much cream, but there were two layers of sponge underneath, so the balance was just right, and it paired wonderfully with coffee haha
