Gangnam date café, butter strawberry jam scone: Something About Coffee
In short
Something About Coffee is a handmade dessert café spread over three floors (1F–3F) between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul. On a Gangnam date, the writer stopped at Something About Coffee after dinner for a black sesame cream latte, an iced Americano, mango cake and a butter strawberry jam scone. The scone was crisp outside and soft inside, and the mango cake was not overly sweet, so the forks kept going. Verdict: Something About Coffee is a Gangnam Station date café where you should definitely save room for dessert.

Something About Coffee, a handmade dessert spot near Gangnam Station: save room for dessert
Something About Coffee is a café known as a go-to handmade dessert spot near Gangnam Station. It had been a while since my boyfriend and I had a date in Gangnam, so after dinner we came here for coffee as our second stop.

It's famous for its handmade desserts, so if you're planning a visit, definitely leave some room in your stomach for dessert *.*
Something About Coffee location, opening hours and parking
The address is 30 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (floors 1, 2 and 3), and it's open every day from 11:00 to 22:30. Dine-in ends at 22:00, and there is no parking.

It's between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station, but a little closer to Sinnonhyeon Station. We got off at Gangnam Station and walked, looking around along the way, so we got there quickly. There's no parking, so I recommend public transport.

Keep going down the alley behind CGV and you'll see a white three-story café building! The Something About Coffee sign is right at the entrance, so it was easy to find.

Apparently dine-in is available until 22:00!
Something About Coffee menu and dessert display
The menu is neatly organized, and there's an English menu too. There are lots of cakes, plus a variety of baked goods like scones, financiers (small almond cakes), cookies and butter tteok (butter rice cake).

The menu is nicely laid out and easy to read. Since this is an area with lots of foreigners, they have an English menu ready too.

Maybe because it's famous as a dessert spot, there are so many kinds of cake and every one of them looks delicious, so choosing seemed like it would take forever..
Further back there are scones, financiers, cookies, butter tteok and more. Picking a cake alone took ages, so I was totally struggling to decide, haha

Personally, when desserts are just sitting out in the open while I choose, it bugs me a little. But at Something About Coffee each one is in its own case, and some are individually wrapped, so I could choose with a totally relaxed mind.
Something About Coffee interior and seating
Something About Coffee is a spacious Gangnam Station café where you can sit on every floor from 1 to 3. There are also large tables for groups and terrace seats.

A Gangnam Station café that's nice and roomy, with seating on all floors from 1 to 3.

There are plenty of tables to begin with, and there are also large tables for groups, so I think it would be a good spot for a get-together too.

The terrace seats are nice when the weather is good, but we visited on a hot day, so we grabbed a seat indoors!
What we ordered: black sesame cream latte, iced Americano, mango cake, butter strawberry jam scone
- Black sesame cream latte (recommended 👍)
- Iced Americano
- Mango cake
- Butter strawberry jam scone

They brought everything out together with the desserts, and the cake and scone looked absolutely delicious from the very first glance.
How is the black sesame cream latte at Something About Coffee?
The black sesame cream latte is the café's recommended drink: the first taste is rich, nutty black sesame, and the finish blends soft cream with bitter coffee. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes injeolmi (roasted soybean powder rice cake) or nutty flavors.

I usually love snacks and drinks with black sesame, so I ordered the black sesame cream latte! It's also the café's recommended menu item, so I got it for that reason too, and I can see why it's recommended *.*

The first taste is that signature rich, nutty black sesame flavor, and the finish is a subtle blend of creamy softness and the bitterness of coffee. If you usually like injeolmi or nutty flavors, I absolutely recommend it 👍
The iced Americano is a solid, easygoing cup

The iced Americano was just fine~ not too sour and not too bitter, so it was easy to drink!
Butter strawberry jam scone: crisp outside, moist inside, not too sweet
The scone at Something About Coffee is crisp outside and moist inside, and not too sweet, so the strawberry jam and butter pairing worked really well.

Ah, I'm so glad I came with room left for dessert. I wish everyone knew this place is a dessert gem.. When I go to places with disappointing scones, they sometimes turn out dry, soggy, or weirdly salty?, but the scone at Something About Coffee is crisp outside, moist inside and not too sweet, so the strawberry jam and butter combo was so good!
Mango cake: a moderate sweetness with chunks of mango

The mango cake? Do I even need to say anything,, ❤

Again, it's not too sweet, just pleasantly sweet. The cream is soft, the sponge is moist, and combined with the pieces of mango you bite into in the middle, I couldn't stop my fork,,!!
Would I return to this Gangnam Station date café?
Something About Coffee is close to Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station, so it's easy to get to, and I'd want to come back on another Gangnam date. Even though we'd already eaten a meal, we finished almost all of the desserts.

Normally when I go to a café I'm already full from the meal and can't eat much dessert, but this day my boyfriend had just a bite or two and I ate almost all of it, haha. It's near Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam Station, so it's easy to reach and easy to get home from. Next time we have a Gangnam date, I'll definitely come back 😍
