Gyudo’s main image introducing a meal that makes you feel treated

With the weather lately having a bit of a temperature swing, I kept thinking I wanted a really neat, delicious piece of meat to recharge my energy! So this time, I visited a buzzy, well-loved spot near Mapo Station with a truly lovely atmosphere haha. To give you the conclusion first: it was a complete success, from the food to the service~!

Where can I find a polished meal near Mapo Station?

Whenever you have plans near Mapo Station or are eating alone, you’ve probably gotten a headache wondering, “What should I eat today?”ㅠㅠ Regular barbecue places can be noisy, and the grease splattering on your clothes can feel like a burden. It’s surprisingly hard to find somewhere clean that makes you feel properly looked after~! Come out of Exit 2 of Mapo Station and enter the Mapo Hanwha Obelisk building right in front of you~

Gyudo, with personal braziers and pot rice

Exterior

I ran straight over because you can grill gyukatsu (Japanese breaded beef cutlet) and yakiniku on a personal brazier, then have pot rice and ochazuke too~!

Interior

Gyudo seating with a Japanese-inspired atmosphere
Gyudo interior suited to solo meals and gatherings

As soon as you enter, the Japanese-inspired interior catches your eye. It felt like I’d arrived at an Inari shrine haha.

The seating is so well arranged, from solo seats to tables for two and four, that it’s perfect for eating alone, dates, or get-togethers haha.

What makes Gyudo special

Personal brazier

Custom-made traditional brass personal brazier

There’s a personal brazier at your seat~ I heard it is a custom-made bangjja yugi, or traditional Korean brassware, brazier. Gyudo’s one-of-a-kind smoked gyukatsu is made with a wood-smoking method using an offset smoker~!

Cutlery and individual tableware

The individual drawer and custom cutlery pouch hold your own tableware, so it felt hygienic and somehow like it was all just for me? It really made me feel treated haha.

Ochazuke broth

There is refillable cauldron-cooked rice, plus ochazuke broth to pour over the pot rice. You can choose whatever you like from barley tea, tonkotsu broth, and bonito-flake broth~!

SET 2: gyukatsu, yakiniku, pollock roe and seaweed, and a drink set

Gyukatsu set meal

The gyukatsu quality was so good, and the brazier heat was just right, so it cooked to a lovely golden brown without burning~!

The myeongi wasabi, every sauce, and even the shredded radish salad are all 100% handmade, so they paired beautifully with the meat and were seasoned so well~

There’s a magic to grilling it over the brazier—it just makes you feel better and makes it taste even better... hehe. The staff came around to replace the charcoal before the fire went out and changed the grill too, which completely impressed me haha.

Why you should have yakiniku as a set

Yakiniku enjoyed over a personal brazier
Yakiniku ordered alongside gyukatsu

Seriously, make sure to order the yakiniku and gyukatsu as a set. Having only gyukatsu or only yakiniku would be a loss ㅠㅠ Please have them together.

Gyukatsu and yakiniku with distinct flavors

They taste different and have different vibes, so you get to enjoy something a little more special!

A generous spread of gyukatsu and yakiniku

It was seriously so delicious, and there was plenty of food too!

Finishing with pot-rice soy sauce egg rice and ochazuke

Pot-rice soy sauce egg rice

The highlight here is the pot rice and ochazuke~ Scoop out some of the pot rice, add the prepared soy sauce egg, and you absolutely have to make soy sauce egg rice~!

Ochazuke

The final highlight is ochazuke, a dish that combines Korean sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) with ochazuke~

Pouring broth over pot rice for ochazuke

Sungnyung is usually made by pouring in water, but here you pour in broth like ochazuke~ Eating it from the pot is a special treat too~

Ochazuke enjoyed from the pot
Bonito-flake ochazuke topped with flakes

Pour in the broth, add the flake topping, and give it a try~ It warms you from the inside, and the nuttiness is unbelievable~ Personally, I loved the bonito-flake broth haha.

Don’t forget to check the country-of-origin information too~

Thoughtful Gyudo even has fabric freshener and dental floss ready in case you’re worried about smells clinging to you~!

By the time we were leaving, it had gotten so crowded! As expected of a place with a wait!

A meal that makes you feel treated

It felt like such a substantial, comforting meal where I was being looked after that I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time~ It’s the kind of place where you’d get praised a hundred times for having good sense if you bring a friend or partner, and I think parents would love how neat and refined it is too haha.
