Seating at Upper and Under runs from the basement level up to the 2nd floor! The entrance space you walk into from the street is actually the basement level by the café's own count. We sat here too, and the lighting was calm and cozy.

On the 1st floor of Upper and Under there's the ordering counter and the dessert display, and the 2nd floor has tables in all kinds of shapes. Each floor has a different mood, so picking a seat is part of the fun at this big Gangnam café.

The fig cake (₩8,500), a popular item at Upper and Under, had just one slice left, and I got it. Picking the last slice, total lucky-vicky, right?

There are figs inside the two layers of sponge cake too, and several big figs sit on top, so it looked fresh and pretty!

The ripe figs were soft to chew with a gentle sweetness, and the cake isn't too sweet, so it went well with coffee.

What does the nuneddine financier taste like?

I picked the nuneddine financier at Upper and Under (₩4,200) without hesitation, because I love both nuneddine (a crisp, layered baked cookie) and financiers (small almond butter cakes).

The crisp nuneddine cookie on top and the moist financier underneath make for a great texture, and it's sweet yet nutty, so it was delicious. If you want something light besides cake at a bakery café near Gangnam Station, a baked sweet like this seems like a good idea.
