Why I came to Dasan New Town for a date near Seoul

Dasan in Namyangju isn't far from Seoul but has less traffic, so it's a great place to combine a big shopping mall like Hyundai Premium Outlet with a tasty date dinner. I hadn't been out to Dasan in ages, so this was a real treat 😃

Where do you park at Udontan Dasan Main Branch?

Udontan Dasan Main Branch is inside the "Hangang Plaza" building, and if you use the basement garage, parking is free for 2 hours. Just look for the building name, Hangang Plaza, and head in.

What are the atmosphere and seating like?

Udontan Dasan Main Branch has 2 tables on a glass-walled terrace and about 6 tables indoors. The vibe is great! Throw the windows wide open and it feels like an outdoor terrace, so on an evening like this, eating with a cool breeze seemed perfect. Inside, the ceiling is high and the lighting and interior are well done, giving off proper date-spot energy.

What did we order at Udontan Dasan Main Branch?

The menu at Udontan Dasan Main Branch is pork belly, beef rib and pork neck, and ordering them as sets was cheaper! I'd read blog reviews before coming and planned to get the beef rib set, but I'd eaten lunch far too late that day and was full, so I ordered pork belly. (The beef rib and yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) look amazing, and so does the meat at the other tables.)

It turns out the staff grill the meat for you. So easy and so tasty, I love it, you know?

What are the side dishes and the pollack roe oil dip like?

The side dishes at Udontan Dasan Main Branch come in a flower-shaped wooden bowl, which is unusual. There's a fresh-kimchi-style side, spicy bean sprout salad and a soy-seasoned side; not many dishes, but a solid lineup. The sauce is an unusual one, myeongran gireumjang (pollack roe in sesame oil dip). I'd never had this combo, and it went really well with the meat!

The place was full, so they brought the meat out first and kindly explained that they'd tend the next table first and then grill ours right away.

How much are highballs at Udontan Dasan Main Branch?

Udontan Dasan Main Branch sells highballs too, which is great ^_^ The Suntory highball is ₩9,000 and the Iltum Jinro highball is ₩8,000, and other drinks include soju, beer and cheongha (refined rice wine).

Is the staff-grilled pork belly smoke-free?

Once the pork belly arrived, the table was full and generous! Since the staff grill at Udontan Dasan Main Branch, I waited beside them, and being pros, they finished faster than I expected. The ventilation that catches smoke works well too, so we ate happily with no smoke.

Grilled veggies and four dipping sauces

The grilled vegetables served with the pork belly are really good too. Mushrooms, shishito-like kkwari peppers, sliced scallions... they're good on their own, and they pair well with the four dipping sauces that come with them.

Why go to a place that grills the meat for you?

I love daytime samsogi (pork belly with soju), so it's a shame this was dinner. Still, it's an early-evening samsogi. Green bottle for the first time in ages 🌿🌿

I'd say always pick a place that grills for you. Even if it's not a date, you can eat comfortably and talk with your companion. And the price difference per serving between grill-for-you places and the others is only a few thousand won, so I always recommend the grill-for-you BBQ restaurant.

Highballs plus pork belly was seriously delicious! The atmosphere inside Udontan Dasan Main Branch is great too, so I'm coming back for another date.
