Jegidong sashimi spot with parking: engawa & sea bream, Simdo Hoetjip
In short
Simdo Hoetjip (심도횟집) is a sashimi restaurant near Jegidong Station in Dongdaemun, Seoul. The writer booked on Naver, drove there, and had a dinner of flounder and sea bream sashimi with starters, complimentary seaweed hand rolls and a spicy fish stew (maeuntang) to finish, enjoying the thick, fresh slices and special cuts like engawa and belly. For a clean, newly renovated Jegidong sashimi dinner spot with parking, Simdo Hoetjip is a solid choice.

Jegidong sashimi restaurant recommendation
A few days ago I was craving sashimi so badly (it's my favorite food!) that I went to Simdo Hoetjip (심도횟집) in Jegidong. I love sashimi and Japanese food, but I don't usually order it at sashimi restaurants. I heard this place does it well, so I paid a visit.
In short: I was satisfied and ate until I was full. Maybe because they just redid the interior, it's clean, and the parking is perfect too, so I'd recommend it as a Jegidong favorite.
How to get to Simdo Hoetjip, and parking
Simdo Hoetjip is at 58 Jeongneungcheondong-ro in Dongdaemun, Seoul, and the closest station is Jegidong Station on Line 1. If you're coming by public transport, keep that in mind, and I'd suggest checking a map on the way!
You can also bring a car, since parking is available. When you arrive in front of the restaurant, just call them and a staff member will guide you. I visited on October 13, 2026.

I wanted it for a night-time dinner, so I booked on Naver in advance, and came up after parking.

The first thing that surprised me at Simdo Hoetjip was the fish tank. It's so clean, truly crystal clear! Let's hurry in!
What's convenient about booking on Naver?

If you book Simdo Hoetjip on Naver, your table is already set when you arrive. I visited with a Naver reservation, and the other side dishes came out right as I ordered! With the reservation there was definitely no waiting, and it was easy.
Simdo Hoetjip menu: set or à la carte?

The menu at Simdo Hoetjip has set combinations, but if there's a fish you personally love, ordering it separately looked better to me. If you can't decide what to eat, the set is the best way to go.
What are the starters (sukkidashi) at Simdo Hoetjip like?

The side dishes at Simdo Hoetjip include steamed egg and even seaweed soup, in the usual style of a sashimi restaurant.

The kimchi pancake was really good too, so satisfying!

How to remove herring bones easily
I think the fish was herring, and it has lots of bones, so eat carefully. When you eat herring, press down on the top first, then pull it straight along, and the bones all come out!

The free gimbap rolls (gimmaki, small seaweed rice rolls) they gave us were heavenly dipped in soy sauce.
Flounder + sea bream sashimi at Simdo Hoetjip: thickness and portion

At Simdo Hoetjip I ordered the sashimi as flounder + sea bream, and it came thick, in a decent portion.

The sashimi is really fresh and thick, though I think the thickness may be a matter of taste. The sea bream still had its skin on, which can be chewy, but it didn't bother me at all and was easy to eat.

How to eat the special cuts, engawa and belly
When the sashimi comes out at Simdo Hoetjip, a little of the special cuts comes too. Both engawa (the fatty fin-edge muscle) and belly came out, so the lineup is one you can really trust. Engawa is rich and nutty, so have it with soy sauce only, and it's even better with a little wasabi!

I tried several ways to eat it, but the wasabi and soy sauce combo was the best and tastiest. I highly recommend it, so give it a try!
How to eat the spicy fish stew to finish

The spicy fish stew (maeuntang) at Simdo Hoetjip may taste bland at first, but if you keep the heat on it simmers down and gets delicious, so keep the burner going! You haven't forgotten that ramyeon noodles and sujebi (hand-pulled dough flakes) are a must in maeuntang, right?
Is Simdo Hoetjip in Jegidong worth going back to?
I was satisfied enough to call Simdo Hoetjip a Jegidong favorite, and I think everyone else will be too. It's good for a company dinner, and the whole menu lineup is good, so do stop by when you're in Jegidong. If I go to a sashimi restaurant again, I'll definitely come back here!
