Yangju galbi restaurant with knife-scored beef ribs: Manpo Galbi

In short

Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch (만포갈비 양주본점) is a two-floor galbi (Korean grilled ribs) restaurant on Songnang-ro in Mansong-dong, Yangju, Gyeonggi. A couple visiting on a weekday early evening ordered unmarinated beef short ribs for 38,000 won, house-made Korean pork galbi for 19,000 won and pudding-style steamed egg for 3,000 won, then finished with the house-made Hamhung naengmyeon (chewy cold noodles), served free with any rib order in spicy bibim or cold broth style. The tightly knife-scored beef short ribs were tender, and with Korean beef yukjeon (pan-fried beef) and yukhoe (beef tartare) included in the basic spread, Manpo Galbi Yangju is a place the couple would happily revisit.

Representative table setting of ribs at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch

I'm guessing a lot of people in Mansong-dong, Yangju are looking for a good galbi (short rib) restaurant. Today I'm bringing you a review of Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch, known locally as a Yangju galbi spot. We happened to walk past it after eating somewhere else, and seeing how packed the parking lot was, my husband and I said to each other, "this must be a good place." It kept coming to mind after that, so this time I made a reservation and went in person.

Manpo Galbi Yangju at a glance: from yukjeon and yukhoe to Hamhung naengmyeon

  • A wide range of ribs — Korean pork raw ribs, hand-cut Korean pork ribs, raw beef ribs — and any rib order comes with free self-made Hamhung-style naengmyeon
  • Beef jeon (pan-fried beef) and yukhoe (raw beef) come as part of the basic table setting, making the meal feel very filling
  • A large dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant means no worries about parking

Is parking easy at Manpo Galbi Yangju?

Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch has its own dedicated parking lot right in front of the store, so I didn't have to worry about parking space at all. The lot does fill up quite a bit during meal hours, so if you want to avoid the busy times, I'd recommend booking ahead.

I couldn't fit it all in one photo, but the whole space in front of the building is basically one big parking lot, so there's plenty of room. Once we parked and walked in, it turned out to be a fairly large two-story building.

Manpo Galbi Yangju on a weekday early evening: atmosphere and seating

Even during a weekday early dinner slot, more than half of the tables on both the first and second floors of Manpo Galbi Yangju were filled. I also liked that the tables were spaced widely apart, so we could eat comfortably without worrying about the next table over. We visited as a couple, but I noticed baby chairs available, and quite a few families were eating there too. It wasn't too crowded since it was a weekday evening, but a lot of reviews mention waits on weekends, so if you're planning a weekend visit, I'd recommend booking ahead.

Manpo Galbi Yangju menu and prices

Once we sat down and looked at the menu, there were quite a lot of rib options. Here's what the main menu prices looked like.

  • Hand-cut Korean pork ribs ₩19,000
  • Korean pork raw ribs ₩21,000 (minimum 2 servings)
  • Hand-cut LA galbi ₩28,000
  • Raw/seasoned beef short ribs ₩38,000
  • Korean beef yukhoe (ordered separately) ₩28,000

  • Pudding-style steamed egg ₩3,000

Orders were placed directly on a tablet at the table. It was more convenient than calling a server over — we could order right when we were ready.

We ordered the hand-cut Korean pork ribs, raw beef short ribs, and pudding-style steamed egg. Not long after ordering, the basic side dishes were set on the table.

Korean beef yukjeon and yukhoe served as standard sides

The Korean beef jeon (pan-fried beef) at Manpo Galbi Yangju seemed to be portioned per person. Coated generously in egg, the beef had a texture that was still chewy but also tender. The yukhoe (raw beef) tasted much richer and better than it looked — the aroma and seasoning weren't overpowering, so I trusted it from the very first bite.

A plate of raw beef short ribs scored tightly with a knife

Beef short ribs ₩38,000: tender thanks to tight knife scoring

The raw beef short ribs looked fresh and vibrant right from the start. Looking closely, the meat had been scored tightly with a knife, and I think that's why it cooked up especially tender on the grill. The difference between scored and unscored meat was so noticeable that I think I'll be checking for knife scoring the next time I go to any galbi restaurant.

Everything was tasty overall. All the basic side dishes were good too, and the potato salad was so nutty and rich that I had a second plate haha. I accidentally dropped a perfectly grilled piece of rib on the floor, and I was so upset about it.

Hand-cut Korean pork ribs served with shredded green onion

House-made pork galbi ₩19,000: a gentle, not overpowering marinade

The hand-cut Korean pork ribs came pre-seasoned. The seasoning wasn't too strong, just moderately soaked in, which made it great to eat with the shredded green onion served alongside. People who like spicy or bold seasoning might find it a bit mild.

Pudding-style steamed egg ₩3,000

The pudding-style steamed egg had a soft, jiggly texture just like the name suggests. It seemed like they'd strained out the egg membranes, because the texture was smooth and silky throughout.

Free self-made Hamhung-style naengmyeon served with a rib order

Free house-made Hamhung naengmyeon with any rib order

Apparently ordering ribs gets you free self-made Hamhung-style naengmyeon, so we ordered one bibim (spicy mixed) and one mul (cold broth) version. Adding mustard and vinegar, both versions tasted refreshing and clean. It would have felt a bit lacking if we'd only had the ribs, but with dessert-level noodles thrown in for free, the meal felt solidly complete.

Tips for visiting Manpo Galbi Yangju

  • Free self-made Hamhung naengmyeon (bibim/mul) with any rib order
  • Order directly via the tablet on the table
  • Dedicated parking lot in front of the restaurant, generally spacious
  • ₩2,000 discount for writing a Naver receipt review
  • Weekend visits may involve a wait, so reservations are recommended

Verdict on Manpo Galbi Yangju

From the side dishes to the main ribs to the noodle dessert, everything we ate was good, no exceptions. Especially with beef jeon and yukhoe included in the basic table setting, you could order just one rib dish and still feel like the table was full. That said, the seasoning is on the mild side, so people who like bold seasoning might find it a bit understated. We definitely want to come back, and next time I'm planning to try the Korean pork raw ribs too. If you're looking for a galbi restaurant in Yangju, I'd recommend giving Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch a try!
